Saw show this afternoon. Lyn Paul was excellent as usual. I was very impressed with Chloe Taylor as Mrs Lyons and lovely to see a younger Eddie. I still miss Sean Jones as Mickey but Alex Patmore was a good replacement. This show never fails to deliver and an instant standing ovation was greatly deserved.

Lyn Paul on top form today, and I was very impressed with the cast overall. Very nice to see an age appropriate Eddie. I was worried within the first 15 minutes or so, they seemed to have stopped "reacting" to one another and the line delivery was identical to what its been for years. It did make me think that it might be a good idea if this production does wrap up next year, give it a few years break, and then come back with a fresh look at the piece. The material itself is so good and would really benefit from a new production and new lease of life.

Nice to see an age appropriate Eddie? How about getting an age appropriate Mrs J?? I think it was more meant as that the twins are of a similar age in real life. No offense to both of my favourite actors in the role so far, but when either was off sick, and the much younger understudy was on with the other one, it did look odd.

Nice to see an age appropriate Eddie? How about getting an age appropriate Mrs J?? Oh I completely agree. Lynn is excellent, but way too old for the role at age 70. I guess we just accept it because of a bit of theatricalness. Mrs J is meant to be 25/26 when she has Micky/Eddie (by the time that I was 25, I look like 42, with seven hungry mouths to feed and one more nearly due). That puts her around 34 when we first meet the "kids" to the end of act one, and 40-44 at the start of act two to Micky going to prison. This is the main "bulk" of the action really. It's only in the last 20 mins or so we would expect Mrs J to be in her 50s

Definitely four of the cast leaving after this week, plus some crew. Will put names when I can.

Leaving Blood Brothers after today are:
Chloe Taylor - such a shame, one of the very few actresses whose portrayal of both Mrs J and Mrs L I really enjoyed.
Gemma Brodrick - she was a solid Donna Marie/Miss Jones, and really enjoyed her Mrs L.
Connor Bannister
One longstanding fan-favourite (this person hasn't announced publicly, so neither will I)
Christina Chmi - ASM
Left few weeks earlier:
Helen Spall - CSM

Spring 2020 has been announced.
It will be Lyn Paul's final time. Again.
Rebecca Storm will be on as Mrs Johnstone in Dublin from 18th to 29th February.
Daniel Taylor will not be performing as Sammy in the week of 3rd March, and possibly some days either side.
Graham Martin is exploring other options.

Has anyone seen Rebecca Storm in this before? I'm seeing it in Derry and I was really hoping to see Lyn Paul again.

Has anyone seen Rebecca Storm in this before? I'm seeing it in Derry and I was really hoping to see Lyn Paul again. Saw her 5.5 years ago, and she was excellent. I think it's now an automatic given that if it comes to Dublin, Rebecca does it. As for Lyn Paul, she has recently tweeted to a few fans that Spring 2020 really will be her last tour as Mrs J.

Let's face it, she did her last show in Grimsby with no send-off. She'll be back for the next tour.

Let's face it, she did her last show in Grimsby with no send-off. She'll be back for the next tour. Ha ha, I said that to someone else. 'As her farewell-tour was cut short, we are delighted to announce...'. To be fair, in the current circumstances I can understand that. It's when they keep saying 'Lyn's final dates are...', I get annoyed.

They can’t seriously have done TMINT like that in the show. Must’ve been to keep the plot points secret on the epk.

Just found the following from the liner notes of the cd with Petula in it.Dates are when Petula did it. It is well documented she saved the show on broadway. BLOOD BROTHERS September 5, 1994 -- May 21, 1995, US Tour August 16, 1993 - April 24, 1994, Music Box Theatre, Broadway, New York, Billy Russell's contemporary prince-and-pauper musical tragedy set in Liverpool, is overlong by a fourth, boasts two songs worth a damn, no dancing, grown actors playing children, shuddery portents of doom, rhyming verse monologues and enough shmaltz to keep the Carnegie Deli in chopped liver well into the next century. The critics HATED it, and soundly (and loudly) predicted its demise. However, audiences that defied the critics and actually went to see the show loved it. Still, ticket sales floundered until an inspired bit of casting paired brothers, David and Shaun Cassidy and Petula Clark as their mother, in the leading roles. Audience attendance soared and the show boasted a standing ovation every performance for the duration of the run. "Petula's extraordinary successful recording career has been well documented - when she took over in the Broadway production of Blood Brothers she reminded us all of what an outstanding actress she has always been. She will hate me for saying this, but she is also the most humble, the most adorable, and the most loving leading lady I have ever worked with. And I thank her for that amongst many things." - Bill Kenwright, 1995 (From the liner notes of the "definitive recording" of Blood Brothers with Petula and David and Shaun Cassidy by First Night Records.)

In honour of Graham, in conjunction with ArtsEd London, his family and friends have created the Graham Martin Bursary. The bursary will provide a helping hand to young performers of exceptional talent during their years of study at ArtsEd. In addition to being awarded financial support, the bursary recipients will also be mentored by well-established theatre professionals, reflecting the generosity with which Graham shared his own expertise and experience for so many years. If you can spare a few quid, please consider donating. Should you donate, and you get an error message along the lines of 'Error state in address value', if you filled in your county, remove it and it should go through. Confirmation email will go to spam. Many thanks! artsed.co.uk/graham-martin-bursary-appeal/
