I saw Barbara Dickson in the original production at the Liverpool Playhouse and Kiki Dee. I have enjoyed many of the performers who have played Mrs J over the years. Lyn is in my opinion the best of the recent inhabitants of the role. Barbara will always play a special part as she introduced me to Blood Brothers.

And I'd also add Stephanie Lawrence to the list When she was well and on top form Steph was the ultimate mrs j .... love Lyn too saw her in Bb when she originally stood in I think for Linda Nolan who made it her own for many years although I thought Berni was better It nice she’s getting a farewell tour. But with Linzi Hatley getting such good reviews I did think at last a new direction for this wonderful show |

Not going to lie - I'm over the moon with this news. When Lyn Paul announced she was retiring from Mrs J it was quite low key with just a few weeks to go and little chance to really celebrate her part in BB success. Now she's getting a proper farewell and I'm sure that will then lead into the show being revitalised with a fresh cast after a true farewell to what has gone before. I saw her in Southampton on the last lot and yes, she's far older than we would expect but brings so much energy and depth of emotion that it gets lost as the character takes over - well, that's how it works for me anyway!

Favourite Mrs J ? Steph was amazing,big fan of Mel C’s stint in the role and with Nikki Evans,we sat near a family members of hers and apparently she became genuinely emotional and weepy EVERY night on the last song.It really got to her.Saw all the Nolan’s do it and tbh can’t think of anyone who has messed it up.I teach it as a set text and always have done so have seen the show at least 40 times.

Tonight is the final performance of this leg, and the show will return in August.
And it looks like with a lot of new cast!
Confirmed leavers are:

I am fairly certain of: Lyn Paul as Mrs J Robbie Scotcher as Narrator Alex Patmore as Mickey Tim Churchill as Mr Lyons Graham Martin as Policeman/Teacher Gemma Brodrick as Donna Marie/understudy Mrs Lyons Shaun McCourt as TBC (I know he's in it, but not yet in which role) I'd think Joel Benedict will be back as Eddie, and Danielle Corlass as Linda. Will post full list when officially announced. |

Saw the final performance tonight at the Cork Opera House, enjoyed it very much. It was a very slick show, and an excellent cast, especially Lyn Paul who was outstanding. The audience were loving it, but there was some annoyingly inappropriate laughter near the end. I think it may have been the staging or maybe it was nervous tension, anyway I was bit embarrassed for the actors.

When I’ve seen this in the past, there has always been laughter after the gun shot which is the most inappropriate time. It obviously makes people jump so they get the giggles! |

^Seen the show with students roughly forty times over the years.They always laugh after the gunshots and I think it is a nervous reaction because of the loudness of the gunshots and after jumping out of their seats.Even students who have studied the play and know what is coming react the same.

Show still in great shape, also seems the music has been updated (like the ouverture) for the better. Lyn Paul being brilliant as Mrs Johnstone, together with some new cast members and others who are in the production for a very long time, but still performing with enormous energy and enthusiasm!
Not to be missed when playing somewhere in your area.

Last night at the Empire in Liverpool was fantastic! Lyn Paul in great form.
Uncle Bill himself was in and made many notes during the performance, but he was a happy man overall.
