Also how's Southwark Playhouse coping with 30c+? It was OK on Friday. There's a cellist in the band and there was no sign of a repeat of the issues the Titanic strings had. Don't know how space is currently set up, but the main aircon enters the space on the across opposite corner from the door the audience enters through, so try and get a seat there for guaranteed coolness. |

I think if I went into any theatre the past two days I would just combust. I have been practically dying in this heat. I sunbed to get a tan but this is on another level.

I'd rather be too cold in a theatre, if I'm too warm I fall asleep! Also I'd rather be too cold generally.
Quite relieved to discover that the Orange Tree is a very positive air-conditioned experience. Nearly melted on my way into the auditorium, but it was Just Right once I got in.

Also a coldie, give me winter over summer anyday.
My coldest theatre experiences? Wilton's Music Hall onw winter before it was renovated watching Fiona Shaw's 'The Waste Land' solo with no heating (thankfully only about thirty minutes or so long). Also, the Globe outdoor winter show by Footsbarn, two thirty minute halves and I was surprised it wasn't snowing (which would have been lovely). Some nice mulled wine helped.
Proving that Scotland does get warm sometimes, a couple of Edinburgh shows rank as the hottest. Neither of which I liked and, in hindsight, it's my clear inability to cope with heat clearly prejudiced me against both of them.

I also detest heat. And (see 'How was your day' thread) spent yesterday in a sweltering tent in Bristol. Partly for the heat reason I declined to go to 'The Other Room' in Cardiff Friday which (god love it/them) is an oversized cupboard that heats up like an oven.
I may however go an lie on the marble/tiled/whatever it is floor of the WMC foyer at lunchtime because it's always cool in there.

Agreed, if if givent he choice, I'd rather be too cold than too hot. My mentality is always you can put on more clothes if you are too cold, but there is only so much you can take off if it is too hot haha.

I'm far too pale/ginger/generically Celtic in origin for this weather. I need rain, cold and grey skies to survive.

I am another who would rather be too cold than too hot.
Someone mentioned Southwark - I was there last week and it felt a bit too warm for my liking but not enough to ruin my enjoyment of the show.
Ones that stick in my mind as being uncomfortably hot are Charing Cross Theatre and Arts Theatre.
I was at the Soho theatre a few weeks back and it was freezing - lovely in this weather!

Would far rather be too hot than too cold; have got a list of theatres I don't go to past October, with the Union at the top... Me too abby-once I'm cold there's no shifting it. Although my hot flushes are doing quite a good job at present! |

The hot weather makes me feel ill so always like the cold. I remember Union Theatre last year it has no aircon no air going around I found it difficult to breathe and kept yawning.

Just a warning that the Union was borderline unbearable last night during Blondel and the outdoor temperature was pretty cool. I was quite close to a portable air con unit which only succeeded in masking some of the quieter dialogue; it had no discernible effect on the temperature. I can't imagine what the temperature was like in there on Wednesday.
I still really enjoyed the show though.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but it seemed better than starting a new one. Does anyone have exlerience of what the Finborough's like in hot weather? I'm supposed to be going there tomorrow and, given the weather forecast, I'm worrying.

The Arts is a pain as it has double the number of air conditioners in the stalls compared to the circle, and heat rises so... you can freeze the audience downstairs whilst the one upstairs is still roasting. Still too much air con is better than none there, I remember feeling my eyeballs melt during American Idiot. |

Southwark Playhouse was horrendous for Working last summer, I smelt like a rancid kebab after the performance .
The dress circle of Leeds Grand was very hot yesterday.

Air conditioning in the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Wyndham's yesterday were both perfect (shame about the fire alarm going off ad us all getting evacuated at Wyndham's but you can't have everything I guess)

Too hot is far worse than too cold. You can dress for too cold but, other than for "Hair" at the Waterloo Vaults, you can't undress for hot.

In what I can only consider a merciful act of providence, the Finborough have had to cancel today's shows due to electricity problems from last night's lighting so I am spared potentially boiling there today!
