It’s supposed to be the writing of a script cover? That’s what I got from it. That’s what I got too!

Not sure Patrick Marber has enough grounding in the golden-age musical comedy idiom to make this very, very flimsy show work. It'll be interesting to see who they cast - if the chemistry is even slightly off, the whole thing falls apart (that's why the first Toronto production was such an enormous flop). It's a startlingly unimaginative choice for a Christmas musical.

I do wonder if a comedian will be cast as Leo but can't see it being Jon Rchardson. A rather rouge decision that I think may at least be interesting would be James Acaster as Leo but again this seems quite unlikely.

From the same writer Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein which had a brilliant Ross Noble could he pull this one off also?
I could see David Mitchell or Ed Byrne in the role of Leo.

I think they'll go for an actual musical theatre actor for Leo. Jack Butterworth could work although he'd be a lot younger than Leo is usually cast.

Susan Stroman's choreography was what made the original production spectacular. It'll be interesting to see who they sign as choreographer.

I rewatched the 2005 film last night, its still a hoot. Re Phantom's comment about how the MCF is the wrong venue ...the story doesnt necessarily cry for big sets and glamour. The Producers world is dingy and with a few glittery swastikas chucked in for good measure. Ben Stones designs for the royal exchange look great and very creative, im sure it can be done on a small scale. www.benstones.com/theproducers

Nothing tops the Mel Brooks 1967 original film -- such great comic chemistry between Mostel and Wilder --, and I've seen the stage musical version a few times. I can't imagine what Marber could do with this in a tiny venue to make it worth yet another visit.

I think they'll follow the usual pattern of proper theatrical type as Max and comedian as Bloom. I really wouldn't be all that surprised if the reliably great Corey English was brought in once again alongside, say, Jon Richardson.

He'd be great, but he's in Dr Strangelove in London and Dublin throughout this run of the Producers.

Really? Would say he'd not be a fit for the character of Max at all.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d cross our road to see ‘The Producers’ on stage again. It just wasn’t for me, but I know it can be done ‘smaller’ as my daughter was in a visually very impressive production at uni that did great things in a smaller space.
