That's incredibly professional. Which one did the rap in Bend and Snap? It definitely was. I initially assumed that Tupele was sick and that Cristina Hoey had to perform as emergency cover for Paulette. Apologies, I was constantly looking at their asses and their thighs (their words...) so I can't tell if it was Margot or Pilar. But they've changed the line anyway from the usual "Serena is a UCLA cheer team leader" to "We are cheer leaders". Oh I forgot to mention that we had no Serena at all on Wednesday night! You said you were in a recent production of Legally Blonde at your uni, right? You could have offered your help to the manager. No need to be scared. It was handled really profesionally. You wouldn't have noticed there are usually three girls if you hadn't known it. |

Bollywood stunt - I guess they are playing to their local audience here, if you haven't noticed the Leicester community is very diverse, the local Local MP is even from Asian heritage.
For people who haven't been to the Leicester Curve before, it is one of the best theatre in the country physically. Great place to se shows and I have seen a few.

I felt that many changes were just done for the sake of doing them and don't make much sense to me - why fix something that isn't broken? - and Callahan and Paulette were in my opinion miscast, but it's still Legally Blonde and I still very much enjoyed this production. Lucie Jones is worth the ticket price alone. I'd be so happy if it went on tour after South Korea, and I'd definitely see it again, despite its few flaws. That said: Please report back, I'd love to hear your thoughts. |

I am pretty sure that the Serena in this production has never had any lines anyway. They have been split between Margot and Pilar for the whole run.

I found this the second time I saw the UK tour, the first time I went the Westend run was still going, but the second time it had long shut and the tour just didn't give me what I craved lol |

Still no Serena. I didn't see any sheets announcing she was off, and there were no announcements made. But then again, you wouldn't have noticed anyway that someone was missing. Still odd though. Oh, the book covers read LELE WOODS again.
Margot and Pilar sang Bend&Snap together.
Edit: Update for the Evening show: Serena is still off, but Fergus is teachable - who'd have thought. Kind of sad that this'll be my last time seeing the show in quite a while.
Edit 2: That was odd. Serena was back on stage for the 2nd half of the Legally Blonde Remix, after which she magically disappeared again. She neither took her bow.

Was there this evening... enjoyed it but was left feeling rather wistful at the finish. Reminded me what a great show it can be but failed to deliver on that promise, despite some real talent in the cast. I have perhaps been spoiled by seeing the bigger, sharper and IMO much wittier WE version more than a few times.

I remember him being very good (better than some may have expected), the role suited him well and he was also lovely at stage door. It opened for previews on 5th Dec 2009 and he left around the middle of June 2010, so 6 months. Quite normal for a "celebrity" stint. Maybe he was only contracted for that long or had prior commitments. Don't remember hearing any stories of anything suspect behind the scenes, though I could be wrong! Susan McFadden only did 6 months as Elle when she took over from Sheridan Smith. EDIT: Found this Metro article after a bit of googling. Headline sounds a bit more dramatic when it says he "quits" metro.co.uk/2010/04/14/duncan-james-quits-legally-blonde-238900/So basically, he was asked to extend until October 2010 but declined as he wanted to do other things and 8 shows a week takes up a lot of time - and he also wanted to see more of his daughter. He also didn't anticipate that it was going to be quite so successful in the UK. |

So I saw the show on Saturday. I won't lie I went in with very high expectations, as previously stated I saw the show many times in the westend, with all the casts. I enjoyed it, it wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either. If I lived closer I would go again. Let's start at the beginning (a very good place to start) the stage was far too big for the lack of cast and set, in many scenes it looked empty. Especially during Blood In The Water! There was no Serena at all, which I can't personally get on board with, she's quite a main character in parts. I didn't realise just how much of the choreography Jerry actually owned, I mean they couldn't even use the delta nu sign! Basically the Bend and Snap was the only dance move that was the same. I felt Lucie had a bit too much Choreography, as the main character in the show in some scenes I felt she was lost in the ensemble. I didn't enjoy the new arrangement of So Much Better at all! As Pepper (Mamma Mia) would say 'you don't mess with a master piece'. Equally I did not see the reason for cutting out an entire verse in Gay or European! The name changes (Beyoncé, Aaron) seemed pointless when they used the names at different parts of the show anyway. Also with someone else on the not really understanding why Vivienne was dressed in white! I did not appreciate the Bollywood twist! The cast however did impress me, especially Lucie Jones. I wasn't 100% about her when she was announced, but I must say she was very good. Especially in the ballad where her voice really shone through, her voice blended well with Jons, who I was also really impressed with. He gave a great performance with comic timing and brilliant acting. Some of the costumes were a little, could I say, cheap  ?. Looked a bit like they did a trolley dash around Primark! However some of the costumes I did like, the What You Want in particular. I feel they were very lazy on not bothering to train the dogs! The westend production used many different dogs and they were all able to bark on command, using a recording was a bit lame. Also the dog playing Rufus (not an English bulldog!!!!) had to basically be dragged across the stage! Talking of pre-recordings, the ridiculously loud tap/click track during Remix was so unnecessary! Tupele grew on me during the show, although she reminded me a lot of a certain westend Paulette. One I didn't completely appreciate. If I think of anything else I'll write another post lol |

'Gay or European' is the best moment and song - why god why would you even think of cutting it by one verse?
If they needed to cut surely 'Blood in the Water' could be cut down

Also from a personal view, Vivienne was a bit too young for my liking. Oh and of course the books spelt 'LELE WOODS' at the end of So Much Better  Oh and we bumped into Westends final Elle Woods (And fiance of Leicesters Warner) after the show! |

You are very right, I do have a habit of calling it by the wrong song title (but I have no excuse having seen this show 4 times and many a listen of the Broadway/London recordings) ;-) Again I can't get my head around cutting down the remix - it's really a normal running length musical without any cuts as it is!! |

Yes the cuts all seemed unnecessary to me too (while I agree Blood In The Water would've been the one to cut down a bit... it always seems to drag). However, I think really taking out a verse here and there did no damage either. I think you'd only notice if you were already familiar with the show, which I guess a relatively small number of audience members were. Enjoyed the show just as much on Saturday (I did giggle at Lele Woods during the interval too!) and Lucie and Jon were the standout performers again for me. I didn't mind the song changes as much second time around. The bollywood twist in What You Want was less jarring and I did very much enjoy Jamal Andreas' vocals, and the slow start to So Much Better is okay. But the 'WOW' bit and the way the pace picks up after it in the original version still works better for me. I just love this show and was so happy to see such a brilliant cast in this regional production so near me! Shame I wont be able to catch it again now. Hoping it will maybe tour though. After dragging my housemates to see me in my uni's production they'd love to see a professional production of the show now! |

Not strictly about the production itself but I did like how they opened the shutters after the show so you could see backstage and look at all the costumes and props

Saw the show on Saturday as well. One of my favourites but surprisingly, I actually preferred the tiny Upstairs at the Gatehouse production to this one. It just seemed to have more heart. Main issue was with Vivienne's outfits - small detail but just couldn't get my head around the fact they were just totally wrong!
Lucie Jones really was the star. One of the most likeable Elle's I've seen. Also, got to mention Jamal (can't remember his surname off-hand). Loved him in Bend it Like Beckham and he was fab in this.
