If they want to overhaul the show (which I would greatly support), can they please start by removing the dialogue they stole from Twilight? It's just embarrassing :')

the dialogue they stole from Twilight? No idea what you mean. You don't see the similarity between 'How old are you?' 'Seventeen' 'How long have you been seventeen?' 'A while' and 'How old are you?' 'Eighteen. But I've been that way for a while now.' ?? Both asked by a dark-haired teenage girl to a boy who is part of a group of people who don't age, about whom said teenage girl doesn't know very much and wants to find out more. |

I think it’s purely coincidental. As I said, Jim started writing this in the late 60’s. If it’s a rip off of anything it is Peter Pan, which vampire mythology also rips off.

I mean it's a rip off of quite a lot of things - Peter Pan, 100%; Romeo and Juliet to a degree (although what isn't); We Will Rock You; and sorry but I'm not sure I can write off the dialogue copy as mere 'coincidence'. It's almost identical. If it's a coincidence, change it when you realise/are told! So yes, also Twilight. Unless you have proof that that specific exchange was written in the 60s. Although if they truly wrote everything in the 60s and refused to change a single word since, that would explain a lot of their abysmal dialogue and hole-ridden plot.
Vampire mythology long pre-dates Peter Pan. Dracula was published in 1897 (and is far from the first example of vampire mythology, but arguably the most well known formalised version), and Peter Pan wasn't introduced to the world until 1904.

I saw this yesterday afternoon at the Stockton Globe. I thought it was very very strange, especially the start, but I had lots of fun! It's just great to be back seeing musical theatre again.
I'm pleased we have a large theatre on Teesside again, which is able to host the big shows, without us having to trek up to Sunderland - it's a great bonus that Stockton is within my driving capability (I get the train via Newcastle when I go to Sunderland). I'd never actually driven into the town centre before yesterday, but had a bit of an adventure going somewhere new. I was pleased to see that it was well attended, everyone around me seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Saw this in Edinburgh last night. First time seeing it. Not my favourite show but it’s definitely marmite. Like, the songs were really fun and high energy, and the staging was rather clever, but I found myself getting very confused plot-wise. Act 1 was very fact-paced and high energy but act 2 dragged I thought.
Lots of problems with the audience. Had to queue for ages to get in because of people trying to smuggle in alcohol, then obviously getting it confiscated and poured out at the door. Which seemed to be happening a lot. People either not having a covid pass or not having it ready. Once inside, massive scrums in foyer, people stumbling around drunk, people pushing and shoving on the stairs. They had to do about 3 tannoys reminding people that it is a musical, not a singalong show. I felt really bad for the theatre staff as they seemed really understaffed tonight and working a show that attracts such difficult audiences on a Saturday with lower than usual staff numbers would be an awful experience for them.
Cast-wise, Martha Kirby was excellent and I look forward to seeing what she does next. Rob and Sharon really ham it up and were my personal fave cast members, what brilliant voices they have on them. Joelle Moses as Zahara reminded me a lot of Danielle Steers vocally. Not that I’d seen her in this, but from Six I could really hear the similarity.
Dunno if I’d see it again because of the issues with the rowdiness and just being confused about the storyline, but definitely glad that I’ve seen it.

I’ve seen the show 40+ times. Last night was attended by the worst audience I’ve ever encountered. My parents had to leave just before the end - they were surrounded by ten drunken women who arrived late with five bottles of alcohol each in tow. The women were singing, dancing and talking throughout the show. They also thought it would be funny to throw popcorn at other patrons. My parents tried to diffuse the situation at the interval and give the women the benefit of the doubt, hence why we didn’t move seats or bother the ushers.
I honestly don’t know why the bar allowed these paralytic women to purchase more drink at the interval. They should have been removed. They spoilt the whole show for us and I was left suitably shaken up by the end. Admittedly, my parents did initiate a heated argument, but this was after they’re endured two insufferable hours of noise and nuisance!
My parents complained to the FOH team at the end of the show and they mentioned they’d already had to chuck 9 people out! I won’t be seeing the show on a Saturday night again. I think I’ll go to Eastbourne on a Tuesday…

It was the row in front of me, mid-stalls. Doug Hodge was about to start "I am what I am". In that production, it was staged very poignantly, there was a silent moment Albin/Zaza takes, where they look out into the audience. Awful drunk woman yells at the top of her lungs: "GET ON WITH IT!", awful drunk husband laughs loudly. Everyone in the theatre inhales sharply. Doug Hodge freezes. Beardy guy two seats down from me taps drunk husband on the shoulder and says "you're ruining the show". Drunk husband turns around without warning and just swings and breaks beardy man's glasses and puts him on the floor. Early 30 minute interval, police called. Bonkers. |

Saw this tonight at the Marlowe in Canterbury and it was superb. Deservedly sold out for the whole week (except a couple of late release boxes). Really excellent - the band was superb, and yes it's a silly story but that cast doesn't half sing it well. So lovely to see so many people so happy and joyful again!

The view is very side on in those circle boxes and you are in line with the edge of stage and orchestra pit. You'll see offstage business/prep and see the brilliant band (as mesmerising as the show itself). You'll not need a cushion as he/she will be able to stand if they want to (rear boxes are either unused and raised). The Marlowe is relatively new and has perfect sightlines. You'll miss upstage left/right action. If box is on right, you'll not see the bedroom (but you'll have clear view of camera relay to main screen). If on left, you'll not see the screen or tunnel but you will see the bedroom. Beware, there's a speaker rack directly next to the boxes and it is loud, but if the elderly lady I saw last night is anything to go by, you'll love it. She was clapping and dancing like she was 30 years younger! Well done getting tickets - if I have one criticism, they could have used the boxes for additional lighting as some of the downstage action was in the shadows. Minor criticism though as last night blew the roof off the Marlowe. It was one of the best nights out in a long time, and I've been out many times in recent months. You'll LOVE it - so much better in the Marlowe than the cavernous Wimbledon theatre. |

A mighty fine end to the run in Canterbury - this cast is excellent, Rob Fowler and Sharon Sexton absolutely rocked tonight, as did the whole cast. This show suits a nice 1200 seater mid-sized theatre just perfectly.

The streamlined set filled the stage at both venues - it looked sharp and tight. There must be several houses in London which could accommodate this touring version, and which are better located than the Dominion and Coliseum! |

I keep looking at the end of the tour in Woking and that gap between that and going out to Oz and wondering if they might do a Christmas season in town.
