I've been to the Lowry and the Royal Exchange and can see that prices at the Palace and Opera House look high in comparison but not compared to London. London prices are pretty irrelevant for a new musical playing 200 miles away in Manchester. A top price ticket for Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder at HOME cost me £32. That's a new musical with critical acclaim and sellout shows at the Edinburgh Fringe behind it. I Should Be So Lucky had top price tickets at £20 for the first preview for ATG+ members and top prices more widely at £45 for its opening week. Up to £75 for a musical that's essentially in previews in Manchester feels like the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Ok I’ve buckled. It’s stupidly expensive but you don’t get to see Cher and Xtina live every day 🤓.

I've wanted a "showgirls" musical for years it's been plotted in my mind since the year 2000s Im watching B on TV right now, I always watch when it's it's on. Since I saw a my mom at the movies I said I'd be good on stage. I'm more interested in seeing this than I am Hello Dolly, and it would seem ripe for a big stage production, but opening with just 2 weeks in the Opera House doesn't inspire confidence. Maybe Stanley Tucci will have 2 of his films playing in the West End at the same time next year. Please can we have Showgirls next please!

Following an unprecedented sold-out season at Manchester Opera House in June, producers of the World Premiere of Burlesque the Musical - the first ever stage adaptation of Steven Antin’s crowd-pleasing musical sensation, Burlesque which starred Christina Aguilera, Cher, Kristen Bell and Stanley Tucci has announced that the production will make its Scottish Premiere in Glasgow in September, and return to the Manchester Opera House in October, prior to a West End transfer.
This has sold very well. I wonder where its London home will be...

I’m sensing that there are no mid-sized musical houses coming free any time soon this year.

People complain when the same names get thrown around for casting and then people complain when new names get a chance.
That aside, the fact that Jess Foley has also written some new songs for the show and is also on the creative team as well as playing Ali, screams vanity project and alarm bells start ringing.

I have a feeling this will be a hit. Jess Foley has an amazing voice- I’ll deffo be there. She also has a big younger following I disagree. The movie hardly pulled up trees at the box office, making $90.5m against a $55m production budget. Then allowing for extensive marketing costs, the movie itself made a very modest profit. It is unlike, say, Moulin Rouge or The Greatest Showman in terms of figures. Or critical success; it has a weighted 4.9/10 and 37% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes from 178 critics, and a less than spectacular 6.4/10 from 92,000 users on IMDB. The soundtrack is only 32 minutes long, comprising of ten songs ranging from 2:00 to 4:29 long. Three singles were released in the UK, one reached #75 in the UK charts, the other two failed to chart. The main release was called “Express” performed by Christina Aguilera, which failed to reach the US Billboard Top 100. It did well reaching #2 in the “second” chart over there. In other words, the film came and went without much ado 13 years ago. There was no viral/crossover pop hit (“Lady Marmalade”, “This is Me”) no box office smash, and modest streaming numbers. The point I am making is less about the quality of the work, but the potential market for this. There aren’t “fans” of the movie unlike say Moulin Rouge, The Greatest Showman, or any of the jukebox or screen-to-stage “night out” shows which have been adapted - like Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman and all the rest. With the amount of new material needed to be written, the film’s obscure nature, and no “name” to sell it I fail to see how this can find an audience. I would be astonished if it made it London.

I don't disagree, but at the same time it has sold very well in Manchester. I think just the title alone will get peoples interest even if they have no clue about the original movie. You also can't underestimate the importance of dvd, satellite and now streaming for people to discover a movie over time. I'm not sure it will end up in the west end, but I can imagine it having a healthy life on tour.

The song I know most from the film is 'You Havent Seen The Last of Me' but it wasn't released in the UK. I think i know it from the remixes that came out at the time
