I know, right? The club scene/So Emotional was soooo much edgier too. Turning it into a "Mayan Medley" did nothing for me. And as for the wood cabin, well that speaks for itself. I agree, the Cabin set was pretty stunning! For me, the Bodyguard was one of my favourite shows of the time, so much so that I dragged anyone and everyone I could to see it multiple times. I was devastated when it left. Going back to it last year quickly turned it into my least favourite. It became tacky and lacked a lot of substance that was there originally. It just goes to show that there's a fine line between making a show amazing and making it awful.

I don't have a problem with the medley itself per se, but the staging of the original was SO much better and so inventive. The focus was more on the scene rather than the song and dance part of it. I felt cheated that the boys doubled as both her dancers as well as the crowd. It also wasn't convincing that it turned into a mob, in its current version. The original version was so tight and really looked like she was performing in a small gritty club. I don't really care about the cabin, they brought it back for the German production. I guess they have the option to use it if it was a sit-down, non-touring production. Absolutely. It looked less like a packed club and more like a co-op before closing hours.

It is my second most watched show after Wicked!
Someone sent me a bootleg of the US Tour and it is very much the same as the Dominion run. I found Deborah somewhat underwhelming but she sings fantastically. I have the audio saved still so if I can work out how to do an audio send, I am happy to send it to anyone who wants it.

Same! I had to follow it across the UK, US, Netherlands and Germany! And none of these versions were truly satisfying after it closed in London! I think I've seen it around 42 times now. Yikes. I've really put up with the new staging, but what I'm struggling with now is the quality of Rachels they've been casting. The German Rachels (I've seen two) weren't vocally amazing at all, and the new one they've cast in Australia sounds horrible. Deborah Cox is pretty good, but no one KILLED it like Heather, Beverley and Gloria. I would say that as a second tier, Alexandra, Rachel John and April Darby (Netherlands) were very good, but the rest were horrible. I know there's a Korean production, but not sure if it was replica or if they did their own thing.

I think my ranking is (of those I've seen, and I won't include Deborah as I haven't seen her live other than bootleg):
1. Rachel John 2. Beverley Knight 3. Alexandra Burke 4. Heather Headley 5. Gloria Onitri

This may sound over the top, but Rachel John was one of the best leading lady performances I have ever seen. She was stunning.

I thought Zoe was better than Alexandra.
Rachel John killed it. I hope she is leading lady again.
Heather was the best for me and then Beverly when it was in London the first time.

I've only seen Alexandra and Beverley. Bev has an incredible voice but I prefer Alexandra's tone to Bev's. I thought Alex carried the dramatic moments better, too. Rachel John was fab as Nikki and I would have loved to have seen her as Rachel. I'm sure she'll excel in Hamilton. I find Heather Headley's voice slightly shrill- she's a fantastic talent but just my opinion. I never saw Zoe Birkett but she's got a good voice.

1. Zoe Birkett - phenomenal 2. Beverley Knight - stunning vocals, questionable acting 3. Alexandra Burke - just good
deliberate gap to signify the huge difference in quality
4. Carole Stennett - there are no words. One of the weakest leading performances I've ever seen in any show.

Maybe Zoe will come back. She was amazing.
Carole was the weakest for me so far.

I agree, Beverley has a much better voice during the songs and I think she is ideal to play Rachel but Alex surprised me for her West End debut. She is a great actress and played a great Rachel and obviously has a great voice. I never saw Zoe either but I do follow her and think she's great! As for Carole, I only ever saw her as Nicki and I thought she was amazing in that role, as was Rachel John. I agree that the Adelphi production was 10x better and I'm so sad they changed it! The show fitted the Adelphi stage better than the Dominion stage and I much preferred the original Queen of the Night - I thought it was amazing! Loved the cabin house loads too. I do wish this had stayed open longer in the West End or moved from the Dominjon to a smaller theatre and stayed in London permanently. Or it'd be good to see it make another London return after this coming tour and maybe stay here for longer than 6 months - Aldwych maybe?

We should have a mental round of applause for Ms. Knight, who after three stints in the role, completes her run as Rachel Marron in Toronto this weekend!
