I absolutely adored this little show. Perfect balance of funny, joyous, gritty and moving. Very catchy / witty songs. Its two performers are superb both individually and together. The transforming suitcase set and the revolve were brilliantly used. Easily five stars. I'm seeing nominations (if not wins) for Best MT actor/actress and new musical everywhere this coming awards season. Except it was apparently eligible for last year's Olivier's but didn't receive any nominations - and therefore won't be eligible this year. |

Really? That seems really unfair since it wasn't until its Criteron run that it was widely reviewed and gained so much buzz. Hopefully some Evening Standard and Whats On Stage Awards if not Oliviers then.

In a prior post I read that they turned down eligibility as they knew they were moving to the Criterion and will be eligible now with this production. Tutty and Gift are both wonderful in this and deserve recognition, her especially, and he does have an effortlessly gorgeous voice.

Saw this yesterday and loved it. Great chemistry between the leads and both played their parts really well. Few aspects that could have been delved slightly deeper into but they did what they could and more with what they had. Liked the ending as well.
Quick question, is the cake meant to fall into the audience onto the stalls floor? I couldn't tell whether it was a bit too rehearsed or genuine corpsing when it happened.

Sam Tutty's reaction did seem genuine and there was quite a long pause of the two of them just covering laughing. He covered well and jumped down to pick it up. |

From the Oliviers 2025 thread in General Chat: Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), This was eligible for the 2024 awards so it won't be eligible again. I note that Kiln has dropped from paying the levy to allow it's productions to be eligible for the main category Olivier Awards, it will now be eligable for the Affiliate award. |

Saw this today and loved it. Sam Tutty has such a beautiful voice and he's absolutely adorable as Dougal, his comedic timing is fab. Had Tanasha as Robin, I have nothing to compare her with as I've not seen it before but she was good!

Loved the show! As someone who now lives in NYC, I found Dougal refreshing and he reminded me of myself back on my first time visiting NYC at age 18.
I work in the customer service industry and Robin’s song “What’ll it be” really hit me.
BTW, I have some questions but not sure how to hide them as it would contain spoilers. I can’t seem to figure out how to post something with spoilers. If someone can please tell me how to do it properly I would appreciate it.

We are booked for matinee on 22 June - Row E - and then realized, oops, it's West End Live - will we get Tutty and Gift. I asked the Criterion box office and they replied that there were no current plans for them to be off on 22 June and that, if they were to perform at West End Live, it likely would be Sunday. So, Two Strangers is not performing on Saturday - but is performing only on Sunday. So, it looks like we will get Tutty and Gift! |

Saw last night, I found it pleasant and nice but nothing exceptional. I was very taken with Gift's performance I thought she was great, Tutty had a harder job for me as I'm clearly closer to Robin and found his character incredibly annoying but he just about made the character tolerable. Both great singers but there were a few seemingly random moments where Tutty would just belt the highest Benn Platt-esque note for absolutely no reason which I found odd and certainly not in line with his character (or that characters vocal range for the rest of the show!)
Thought the simplistic set was really elevated with the turntable and different things popping out of the suitcases and the neon lighting, they did a great job of making a two hander musical feel very full and big. I liked the suit jacket falling from the rafters that was fun. The Criterion is one of my fave theatres in London I think shows just fit really snugly in there and I am glad a show of this size has had a chance to play in the West End in a suitable venue rather than being dumped somewhere bigger and struggling to succeed. For a Friday night it was nearly full with a very happy responsive whoop-happy audience.

Halfway through 2024, this is my favourite new musical of the year so far (and the competition isn’t even close). If it was eligible for the last Oliviers and won’t be available for the next ones, that’s a huge shame.

Someone on here was a judge for the most recent Olivier awards, and said the show was available to vote for in all categories, but that more recently Klln had changed its 'subscription' to SOLT to be an 'affiliate theatre' only - which I think only gives only the 'acheivement in an affiliate theatre' award. Either way it was suggested that dealing with the Oliviers for this particular show was in the past. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. |

She just seemed, to me, to lack nuance. She said the lines - she sang the notes (most of them) - but I didn't get much sense of character - and there was little chemistry with Tutty. They were just on two different levels. So, we enjoyed the show, but felt like it could have been (and perhaps is) so much more. Did enjoy the creative set and revolve and the songs were fairly catchy. But Chege just was not "on" during this performance - even Robin's big Act Two number just kind of was there. But, others seemed to really enjoy here by the applause. |

Thats a shame as both times I saw it Dujonna and Sam were on and there really is a wonderful chemistry between the two.
