What I'm trying to say is that so much engineering goes in to the experience, that it is effectively over-engineered, and the recording perhaps betrays that. In short, the show doesn't sound design half as good when played without the whistles and bells that go into the whole production. Perhaps an Atmos version would fix it. However, after listening to Crazy, I can take or leave the cast recording and keep my memories to the Troubadour itself. Yeah I totally hear this explanation! I'd love a recording for the memories long after Troubadour is itself a memory though haha! Maybe if it runs and runs they'll do a live complete one in time.... (And obvs I am certainly not writing this one off till heard the full thing!)

Appears that there may be another version of Hydrogen and Crazy to come when the album releases, Jade and Jeevan appeared on BBC Radio London on October 9th for an interview with Crazy played afterwards and it doesn't match the version currently on spotify. The interview is around the hour point of www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0jpwp29

So that version of Crazy sounds MUCH better. Much more like how it sounds in theatre. And also the identical version to the theatre with the extra choruses and the "rugged and busted/dirty and rusted" lyrics that don't feature on current iTunes version.
Promising I have to say :-)
Question for people who understand music releasing - once something has dropped and it appears as part of a forthcoming album on streaming platforms (Crazy and Hydrogen appear as tracks 3 and 7 of the album itself, not as actual singles) can those tracks actually be changed when the full album "drops" or would they be fixed now? I literally have no idea how these things work!
Also wouldn't the physical copies have already been pressed for a release next month?
So yeah - be interesting to see how this pans out as that Crazy is SO much better!

The real issue will be what version is going to be on the vinyls as they’ll have been pressed already…

As I actually pre bought the album in that so was charged for the two songs when they dropped! Dunno if they can swap something you've paid for!?

I KNEW that there was something funny about the single release.
Also the records probably have the new versions as they'd have been pressed sometime now.
Even if you paid on iTunes, they can always switch the masters over to be another kind. Just redownload the tracks when the album releases and they'll correct themselves.

Got a great deal on the website this afternoon, so going tonight. It's a show I don't know much about, so I'll enjoy being surprised.

You can see my blurry head from one of the platforms in that video. I'm famous!
The drone actually was kind of distracting and loud at certain points during this performance by the way!

The trailer has also released Is Rolling Stock that slow in the show? That's about the regular tempo that it is on other cast recordings. I will say that I didn't really hear the famous detuned saw synth playing the riff when I saw it in person, so I wonder if that's an invention of the cast recording.

The OLC is slow, but the 1992 version seems faster.

In the newest vocal score it's at 115bpm which is about the tempo of the OLC and this version in the video.

I saw it a few times at the Apollo Victoria - have never seen Bochum. I think it's great that a show written so long ago can capture a new audience the way it has.

I’ve realised why I hate Crazy in the Wembley production (apart from the orchestrations) is Rusty being the one to call himself ‘crazy’ first.

I can see both sides here.
If you are a devotee of the Nunn/Napier/Phillips original (as I was/am having seen it 160 odd times across all productions) I'd argue it's almost impossible to look at the scale and ambition of the current version and not be disappointed. And certainly at the first couple of shows I really struggled.
But if you remember that we simply are not in that era now (sad though that is!) and in retrospect it was sadly never gonna evoke it then I think there is much to love here. The score, the sound, the colours, the lighting, the warmth that just radiates from the cast and the central message of the show - all very much there. The Starlight sequence is gorgeous and truly gives me goosebumps.
And every time I go I enjoy it more :-)
From a producing perspective they have also played a blinder. As whatever us old timers think, the new audiences are loving it (I guess there is a separate conversation to be had on how you impress in 2024 vs 1984) and people that saw the original once or twice also seem to adore it. It's also a massive business success as I don't think can have been that expensive (in relative terms) but there is enough there to give you the illusion of expense. As I've said before Harrison spends just enough to do what he needs to do.... and not a penny over.
Do I miss an enormous industrial metallic Napier set with huge rotating tilting bridge in the middle? Hell yeah. But do I also think they've captured something magical for 2024. Also yes. But you do have to evaluate it is a completely different production with different goals. As ever it's complex for a devotee of the original!

Yeah the moving of Crazy to it's current position does go on the (long!) list of change for changes sake lol! I'd be here for the triumphant return of Engine of Love! (Though then you'd have to get rid of Whistle At Me - but I've always preferred the melody as uptempo!)

The trailer has also released Is the title song supposed to be riffed like that? LOL - depends what you mean by supposed. It's deffo increased in riffyness and decreased in pure MT over the years. But this does seem like a step up. In fact on here it reminds me a bit of Sydnie Christmas' version.

The kid who’s singing it must believe his version of the tune is better than ALW’s original. “This is boring, let’s riff it up and il get a chance to show off even more!”.
I think it sounds awful.
