The rear two rows of the platform sections has step free access so is (I assume) on the same level as the foyer - wheelchair positions are at the back of the platform section.
The rest of it isn't step free so that does suggest a rake in the section.

That video doesn’t show the set. It shows the model of the venue. 🤣 I think what people mean is that it shows the layout of the stage - and the fact that there will be actual race tracks going through and around the audience, just like it used to be at the AV - which we could only assume so far, but couldn't be sure about. I've just watched the model section of the video repeatedly to try and work out the view from my seats! Gone for £77 front row locomotive and it looks fine. Obviously a railing in front but I don't really mind that. So fingers crossed it's all good. Won't be too long to hopefully find out. I worry a little that the "platform" section isn't raked at all. That's quite a few rows of heads in front blocking the view to the main stage. Although we'll be in Row H (second to last) which does seem slightly higher than those in front. Still hoping that as this is only a model, they will remember to build a little rake into that section. Yeah I wouldn’t get too excited. There were no barriers in that model around the audience aisles and there’s no way they can skate around there at speed without those. We’ll see. The pressure is on for this to be good. |

In London and Bochum they had/have barriers that come up from under the stage before the race sequences, they weren't up throughout the entire show.

I suspect barriers just aren’t on the model. They couldn’t risk performers falling down that entrance staircase (just above the ‘with’ on the still) surely?

actually when you look closely at that still, you can see a few barriers in place. They might be examples or the part that are permanently up during the show, while others will only be raised for the races.

I know I’m getting old when I look at the new Company of Starlight! I just remember the Victoria Apollo cast looking like fully blown adults. The shots look a bit like a performing arts production. Still very excited. But the original cast were really edgy.

I guess its to do with when were are young we think people are older than they are. |

All starting to look pretty starlight-y! Interesting to hear one of the very few slower numbers (the title song and theme) sped up here. Wonder if whole thing will be max speed. I’m also getting a slight k-pop vibe from it all.

I did notice in the sitzprobe videos that the band seems to be made up of guitars, keyboards/synths and drums and no other instruments, so maybe they’re going for a very modern sound! Can’t believe the first preview is in 2 weeks!!

Can’t believe the first preview is in 2 weeks!! So that’s what the workshop band was! And Bochum is currently 3 keys, 2 guitars, bass and drums (total 7). So all “strings” and “brass/woodwind” are synthesised. Back in the day was more than double this. But I’d actually say it sounds fuller now. The wonders of technology! Does indeed sound very modern. |

So, I am in my 30s and have no real memory of Starlight from the previous London production. The description of it as a "toy train set come to life" and lots of kids on rollerskates, hits me as really odd and potentially massively dated. My question is, will audiences in 2024 rush to see it and do we think this is gonna do good business and run? I've been surprised before by a different ALW show, POTO... I thought it sounded really weird and knew very little about it before the relaunched production and I now absolutely love it and it consistently sells out! What do we think?

It ran for a good 10 years in the West End from 1992-2002. It's still pretty popular in Germany. It toured only about 10 or so years ago here (which was when I saw it..!) I'm only interested in how much today's teens will like it! But otherwise, I think it's gonna be a pretty easy sell. Starlight is one of those funny ALW projects he clearly still cares about a lot. He threatened to shut the German production down after seeing how it'd been mangled over time by the tinkering they'd been doing. So with this production it feels he's definitely trying to put together the "ultimate" version... whatever that means.
It's one of those shows that'll continually evolve.

But yeah, it ran for a long time. It seems like it falls in and out of favour with whatever his brand is; it doesn't have much presence on compilation albums. Some albums have shows like Tell Me On A Sunday/Song & Dance take up more on the tracklists than Starlight...

He’s got the latest ‘in’ people working on it so that’s what he’s going for. I hope it works. |

And the original was dedicated to Nick and his sister Imogen. (Though was Alistair who wrote the music for I Do/Für Immer! ALW’s first son with his current wife. And to whom the “new” London version was dedicated in 1992!) |
