Will that be the end of The Kings Cross Theatre?

Will that be the end of The Kings Cross Theatre? I guess it depends if In the Heights wants to stick around? It is booking until October I believe, but we all know that many of the cast are leaving then too, so either it closes then or extends with a new cast!

I've just assumed In The Heights is closing. Hope not though. I guess we'll see. I really wanted to see Starlight Express do a run there.

They could flood the tracks, change the train to a ship and do a beefed-up version of Titanic.

The Kings Cross Theatre was only ever meant to be temporary so I'm guessing Google is planning to build their new HQ from 2017, I imagine Heights will close in October since it's yet to extend bookings

I thought Lazarus, the David Bowie musical, was all-but-confirmed to run at the King's Cross Theatre? Directed by Ivo van Hove.

Ah yes you both may very well be correct! The below tweet from Baz is a little ambiguous, as it says "popular for temporary theatres" and although it mentions the Donmar making use of one temporary theatre as an example, it doesn't explicitly state that Lazarus is going to the same temporary theatre as the all-female Shakespeare, neither does it state whether it's going to the temporary theatre currently home to Railway Children/In The Heights! Also, the 2016/2017 dates clash slightly as the Shakespeare trilogy runs from 23rd September 2016 - 17th December 2016, so I think that's where my confusion lies!

Yes. That was the tweet I was thinking about. Not very clear either way.

Even more confusingly, there's a full article Baz wrote in the Daily Mail saying that there's talks of a late Autumn 2016/early Spring 2017 opening, and that "an 800-seat temporary theatre will be built as part of the Kings Cross Theatre complex (where The Railway Children is running) to house it." So a third temporary theatre?! I'm confused. But sorry to hijack with Lazarus stuff, this has already been discussed on the Lazarus thread in musicals and this is about Railway Children anyhow! Apologies!! www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3587891/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-New-theatre-built-project-David-Bowie-worked-died.html

Apparently Google are now setting up home in Battersea Power Station, which doesn't change the fact that shows are closing but does alter the future landscape of King's Cross somewhat.

So a third temporary theatre?! I'm confused. Yes, there'll be three temporary theatres there for a while. No reason to be confused.

It looks like this is going to be reconfigured for a theatre tour. It's heading to The Lowry for a week in July next year.
I loved this at Kings Cross but so much of the magic comes from the staging. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

The tour is a different production. From the limited info I can find through Google, it looks like it's produced by Sell A Door.

I enjoyed that. Although I preferred the Mother I saw at The Kings Cross Theatre (Caroline Harker).

The tour is a different production. From the limited info I can find through Google, it looks like it's produced by Sell A Door. Exeter Northcott Theatre and Nick Brooke Ltd are the producers of the tour. Adaptation by Dave Simpson and directed by Paul Jepson. Projections and frankly laughable models used for the trains and indeed Perks on his bike. One of those shows where I felt sorry for the cast, there cant have been more than 100 of us in the theatre and with the modelwork getting laughed at and some of the acting being third class this was a rail replacement bus service of a production. Even at 90 minutes and an interval it draaaaaaaags - the end of act 1 is the bit everyone remembers from the film and then the second act is a long 40 minutes to get to Daddy my Daddy. Not a good evening - but at least by starting at 7pm it was over by 9 and I could get the direct train home at 9:12, hurrah! And an extra special thanks to the lady on the ticket desk who gave me a refund on a cancelled ticket. ....and its my first time at the Theatre Royal since the Manchester incident and they have now banned large bags and backpacks from shows.
