I finally got round to seeing this in Leeds yesterday and absolutely loved it. It's a shame I left it till the last day to go, as I would happily go again. It's such a feel good show and was engaging right from the start. I haven't seen any of the films so didn't really know what to expect other than a school putting on a nativity, but that didn't matter and it was very easy to follow. I think Simon was the perfect choice for Mr Poppy, and I loved all the different 90s references on his t-shirts. I thought there was a good balance of silliness with more serious bits (I generally don't like panto as it often gets too silly) and the kids' letters to Santa song was quite moving. I loved how we could all join in and help out with the power cut, looking behind me at everyone waving their phone lights made me feel like I was at a pop concert. I also loved the references to Joseph and Superstar, and one scene had a very Wicked vibe. A great start to my 2018 theatre-going!

I didn't join in as I couldn't figure how to work the light on mine but when I looked back at everyone behind me it looked impressive as the mobile phone hadn't been invented the last time I went to a pop concert.

Nativity will be running again this Autumn/Winter, touring from October through to December, beginning in Coventry, and then stopping at Liverpool, Glasgow, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Stoke before finishing at the Hammersmith Apollo over Christmas. The person playing the Hollywood Producer seems to vary from venue to venue, with some venues still as yet unannounced, but it's going to be Jake Wood in Oxford, Adam Thomas in Stoke & Liverpool and Charlie Brooks in Nottingham. Across all venues Simon Lipkin stars as Mr Poppy, Scott Garnham as Mr Maddens and Ashleigh Gray as Jennifer Lore. The website for this is www.nativitythemusical.com.

Slightly disappointed as was hoping Daniel Boys would reprise his role but glad Simon Lipkin is back again.

Just realised the tour dates were old news, but the casting is new and came out today!

I've decided that I'm going to see this in Edinburgh, because I really really want to see Ashleigh Gray, and I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun to watch.

No idea what this show is about, but I just booked a ticket for the Hammersmith Apollo solely because of Ashleigh Gray

Does anyone know who's playing the Hollywood Producer in Edinburgh? It isn't listed on the website.

I’d held off from commenting on this one as it does seem absurdly early to bump up this thread, but after seeing the matinee in Coventry this Thursday I absolutely loved it. I was disappointed that I missed it in London last year, so grabbed the chance when this went on sale.
I was worried it would be too cheesy for my liking, but I enjoyed every second of it. Working in a Primary School myself, I found myself laughing at the nuances that I recognised from my own experience with school productions, such as Mr Poppy running on to remove that one child who is still standing on stage at the wrong time. Simon Lipkin and Scott Garnham were fantastic leads, and the children (shout-out to little Joseph!) were perfect.
Suffice to say, despite it feeling misplaced to watch a Christmas show in October, I went home and started work on this year’s Christmas Cake and broke my mince pie seal too. This needs to come back every festive season, I can see it becoming a new tradition for many, including myself, to settle into each year.

So maybe there won’t be a name for The Hollywood Producer? In the programme it states that Jamie Chapman is playing the Critic for all venues except Edinburgh and London, and Andy "handsome" Burke plays the Hollywood Producer during the stints in Coventry, Edinburgh and Milton Keynes.

Does the programme say anything about Dani Dyer who plays Polly Parker in London? Is this a role that will just be added for London?

The character wasn’t in the show in Coventry, but the producers name is Mr Parker so I imagine they have written the part to fit with her relationship with Danny.

I loved this show when I saw it last year but am a little worried about them just adding 'names' like this. I didn't mind Louis as the producer but thought an American would have made more sense. I hope they prove me wrong, I doubt that they will. (Sorry wrong show). I'm still excited and will have a much closer view this time than rear rear circle of the Apollo Hammersmith last time!

Sounds like a bit of a day! I assume that is giving them time to rehearse the children to cover

Fun fact, the original movie was filmed at my school in Coventry. Very little gets me back there, but I am tempted to book for this in London.
ETA Just looked and it’s in Hammersmith, so clearly that’s not going to happen.
