The Witches is the new Into the Woods from Bath. Everyone wants it to transfer but it isn't going to, by the looks of it.

It is quite likely to reappear at the NT in the next 2 years I would imagine Indhu has her own plans for the future that don't include a return of a show from a few years back tbh - i think it was probably this Christmas or bust, but they're doing Ballet Shoes instead. People (outside of very regular theatregoers) will largely have forgotten about this musical in a years time I'd wager. |

Personally I think it would benefit from being put away for now and revisited in years to come by a new creative team who can fix its issues and approach a new design and production with fresh eyes. |

I imagine it'd be much cheaper and possibly better for the show's health to just put it out on streaming. Then, it can have an extended life with a wider potential audience than another WE run in this competitive landscape. It's not in the public catalogue at the National Theatre Archive, which is usually a sign it could be coming out in a public form in the near future. Filmed stuff ends up in there when there's truly no hope remaining.
(The NT Hadestown proshot used to be there, but it was surreptitiously taken out from public viewing once the show was slated for, and opened on the WE.) |

It might be tricky to stream or broadcast in cinemas because of rights issues. Netflix owns The Roald Dahl Story Company but I think Warner Bros stills own some screen rights to The Witches as well.

If you go back to my review of the show (at the top of this page!), you'll find there's a lot about the show I liked, and I wanted bits of it to be better because it's got bags of potential so I don't know where you've come up with the idea that I'm anti-Witches TBF. I'm just trying to explain that this show is enormous (the NT themselves literally acknowledged they made a show that can only fit into Drury Lane) and the Gillian Lynne does not have the capability to house it... Something else is filling at least some of that 7 months to be announced shortly. I see a social media rumour that The Lehman Trilogy may be coming back to the Lynne. It's a good show but it's been done to death, if true. |

The Piccadilly run was just over three months IIRC so 12 weeks is doable for a return run. The GL run sold really well so it's a no brainer to do another run. |

Into the Woods went onto restricted licensing on MTI Europe this time last year, around the time the rumours of a transfer from Bath had been going on. It had really odd guidelines, like how you couldn't perform within 30km of London or something ridiculous like that. When MTI restricted it, I assumed it was because of the transfer.
Now it's gone back up for licensing, and there's productions springing up again in London. This transfer is definitely DOA...
