Although Sheridan may strike as a 'young' Shirley, she is only 1 year younger than the character's given age (42). Pauline was 58 when she made the film though. 48! Sorry, typo!

No longer a rumour. Duke of York Theatre from 17th Feb for 12 weeks starring Sheridan Smith. This is my favorite one person play and unfortunately will miss it. Saw it a few times on Broadway many years ago. I hope AGT will bring it over to the Hudson.

Whilst I'm sure it's within her capability, I've said it one, I'll say it again, Sheridan Smith as a middle-aged, bored and frustrated Liverpudlian housewife- I just don't buy it.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't buy it!

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't buy it! Sheri is 41, the fictional Shirley is 42. I guess the issue is that 42 in the 80’s is a lot different to 42 these days but nevertheless she’s totally age appropriate and the rest of it is acting. I think she’ll be very good!

Extended until 3rd June so now a 15 week run. Good for them - I'd love to see this!

I wouldn't be surprised if those extra weeks were built in as there was a big gap between Shirley closing and The Pillowman opening..

I booked as soon as this went on sale, £20 rear stalls during previews seemed a bargain considering the same seat is MUCH more for Mother Goose. So excited to see Sheridan back on stage for the first time since Joseph, I’ll always be a massive fan whatever she does.

It's a great song! And if memory serves me correctly, both this song and Pauline Collins were nominated or Oscars.
In fact the score for the movie- all of the Greek underscoring, etc was by both Will Russell and George Hatzinassios.
I have the soundtrack.

It would be bizarre to have it sung at the end of the play though. Come on.

Just saw an instagram posting earlier, of her in the rehearsal room with the director (Matthew Dunster) and Willy Russell himself.

It would be bizarre to have it sung at the end of the play though. Come on. Not to mention it would be a massive waste of money. The producers aren't going to spend money on getting the rights to the song for the run nor hire a band to perform it.

Song from the film. I didn't remember it at all... Thanks for posting a link. This is a song that was written by the glorious Marvin Hamlisch with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. I never suggested that there be a band on stage. I imagine the power of Sheridan's voice asking the audience to join in acapela will bring the evening to a heightened level of ecstasy.

We're starting to get into fantasy land territory.

She should sing it at the beginning, that’s when the opening credits were!

David Pugh must be paying the ‘National Treasure’ a fortune the way he is constantly putting up his prices up non premium after press night is now a whopping £138.50!!
that the Dynamic Pricing at play - ATG are buggers for it and the rest of the theatre industry seems to be getting wise and following suit.
As usual it's the consumer who comes off worst....

There was a play at the NT maybe it was called The Kitchen? Fully functioning restaurant kitchen on stage. It was ‘Network’, starring Bryan Cranston at the Lyttleton Theatre, in 2017/18. Director was Ivo Van Hove. Tickets to sit on stage were ballotted - luckily we got two tickets and a meal onstage. It was excellent! “The play also features a live onstage television studio and an onstage restaurant titled Foodwork, where audience members can enjoy a three-course meal while watching the play”.
