Nancy isn’t really treated like the great part it is since ‘I’d Do Anything’ though is it? Some cracking songs, a great arc and the heart of quite a dark show. Sheridan Smith would have been an excellent Nancy five years ago and whilst it would be a waste of Carrie, if they’re happy to give her 14 minutes as Fantine she could kill it too.

I think Bill Bailey is a great shout for Fagin as been previously said.
I wouldn't mind Carrie as Nancy, but it feels quite...obvious. Sheridan couldn't sing it (although she'd have been great 7 or 8 years ago) and Idina and Helena are completely wrong for it.
It's a good show that can be great if it's cast well.

Nancy's young, vibrant and a bit rough around the edges - plus she's from London. If that role goes to Idina Menzel, there's something seriously wrong with the casting process!!
So many of the names mentioned here are the same old, same old. I really hope we don't see Hope Fletcher, a Strallen or Sheridan Smith here. There are plenty of young actresses who could give Nancy the outspoken but heartfelt hardness and sincerity she should have.

I agree would be nice to have another ‘Clare Halse scenario’ - take another fantastic actress from the ensemble and make them a star.

I’d love for them to do another search for Nancy to bring those programs back they were amazing. And it would help the revival sell tickets.

I think only an actress from the East End should play this. Or it’s offensive to Eastenders.
Or, they could just NOT REVIVE IT.

It should be a bona fide Cockney and they must have been born within the sound of Bow Bells and preferably an ex or current pearley queen.

We're all discussing about who should play Fagin and Nancy, but what about Bill Sykes?
One person who comes to mind that could work is Andrew Lincoln. I don't think Sykes necessarily needs to have the best vocals and I can imagine Lincoln pulling the role off well. He can be intimidating and give off the impression of a person you don't want to mess with.
Although his schedule will probably get in the way, but who knows.

And i would happily pay to see her do it, over nearly every single name mentioned so far.

If it's just someone who suits the part, then Nancy being from London doesnt matter. I never mentioned anything about Idina Menzel. I was originally responding to a previous poster who thought Idina Menzel would make a good Nancy. I pointed out that - amongst a list of other traits - Nancy is from London. I never said the actress had to be from London, only that she would need to convincingly portray Nancy and all her traits, one of which is a London accent. I apologise if my point wasn’t clear enough for you.

Let’s just wait and see if it even happens first. I think I like the idea of Martine best. Approaching middle age but still got it.

I'd love to see Jessie Buckley do it as well. It would be a lovely way of honouring her roots and finally let us see how good her Nancy would've been (although Jodie was fabulous)

Thinking back to I'd do anything I always thought Francesca Jackson was very good. I loved Jodie and was glad she won, but Francesca really sold that song.

Ha, she would be good in the role, but if you want to see he, make sure you buy several tickets, over several performances. Not sure if Cameron Mackintosh would want to work with her again after My Fair ‘indisposed’ Lady. But saying that Martine hasn’t rush back to be on stage again, think she done a arena tour of Elf. So if appearing on stage caused problems, with poor mental health, then that is very sad.
