Have they announced which dates in Feb this will be? 21st-25th. Seems strange for it to not quite be a full week, but I guess there's logic behind it  |

I popped into the Duchess box office yesterday & asked about this & they have no information on dates, in fact my query was the first the assistant I spoke to had heard of it. So it may be a bit soon to be booking as it seems the dates have not yet been confirmed.

From the Mischief Theatre newsletter (emailed on the 27th Oct): "...we’re delighted to announce that from 21st-25th February 2017, the original cast of The Play That Goes Wrong will be returning to the Duchess Theatre for one week, in celebration of the 1000th performance! After that, we’re anticipating heading to America to take The Play That Goes Wrong to Broadway and we’ve also got two new casts kicking off a tour of Australia and a 30 week UK Tour, so keep an eye on our website and find out when we’re coming a theatre near you." |

^ I guess no-one bothered to send that to the Duchess box office then. I just wanted to warn people that it's not confirmed by the theatre at present.

Wow! What an achievement, and the whole of Team Mischief should be so proud, they are teriffic! Ad seems like a perfect size theatre for it too, not too big to overwhelm the show but just a great size. I could see this having the potential to have a long and healthy run. Do we know yet if it is limited or open-ended? As shows there tend to do shorter runs through either being labelled as limited or flopping.  |

Nice to finally have confirmed dates & a theatre after what must be nearly a year of "Yes it's definitely going but we don't quite know when". I'm glad that Rob Falconer is coming back to do it, after missing the PPGW transfer & TCAABR, & nice that Bryoney Corrigan & Matt Cavendish are going along as the understudies.

Fabulous news. This is my absolute favourite bit:
"Mischief Theatre founder and writer Henry Lewis said "We are delighted that due to an administrative error The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society will be coming to Broadway's Lyceum Theater in place of the RSC's production of Black Beauty. A fresh American audience with no knowledge of our previous work will be a real help to us. We are also optimistic these 5 months before we open will give Dennis a chance to fully memorize his lines including all the long words. We would also like to wish the RSC all the best with Black Beauty, which will now be taking place back in England at the Cornley Village Hall. We'll leave the vaulting horse out for you.""

I imagine it's open ended, I'm not sure if it'll be a long runner but I could see it doing at least 18 months to 2 years much like Curious Incident did. |

No, there is room for both especially as Noises Off has a kinda plot and features sardines.

Both are equally brilliant pieces of theatre in their own right. Seeing one will not diminish the other at all.

I adore Noises Off - it truly is a masterpiece working on so many levels, and still remains funny. I just wondered how Play that goes Wrong works without the set up of the backstage character stories.

Noises Off is both a celebration and a deconstruction of farce. The Play That Goes Wrong is a helluva lot less sophisticated, though no less sublime.

I don't understand the idea there can only be one farce, when there are about eight billion serious dramatic plays about fraught relationships between brittle, damaged people.

(Although if you subscribe to the "opening line of Anna Karenina" point of view, then I suppose it does make a certain sense in a weird sort of way that we have space for billions of miserable dramas and very few happy plays. ) |

Finally saw this tonight. Will write up full thoughts tomorrow, but overall I'd give it 3.25 Stars out of 5.
Can anyone confirm which understudies we had tonight? The cast board didn't match who I thought I saw - maybe that was deliberate?!

OK, so I don't have as much time as I thought I would to write down my thoughts.
Basically, several of the jokes wore very thin by the end of the first half, then carried on into the second.
I know it sounds weird, but some of the cast seemed a bit over-rehearsed. I understand that they have to be extremely precise with their positions on the stage, but some of the delivery just seemed off. Obviously I get that some of them were trying to be bad actors and whatnot just a couple of things along the way. An odd comment I guess, I know what I mean haha.
I hated the speech at the end though. Really unnecessary and self-indulgent to promote their other shows. Left a bad taste. There are leaflets all over the place in the foyer which should be enough.
I would see it again, but I wouldn't pay full price.

I get what you mean about over rehearsed - I imagine they are at that half way point in the contract where it's very easy to be going through the motions, and hard to keep fresh/improvise around. I've not seem this cast to be able to say anything substantial though.
They've always (to my memory) done a post show message of some kind - but now they haven't got an upcoming show, it can feel a bit pointed. Peter Pan Goes Wrong's one is always about GOSH collections.

I don't mind announcements about charity collections. Imagine if at the end of Phantom, the Phantom suddenly started 'by the way Andy's got a new show on at the New London.' I know it's not quite the same as they're a much newer company, but hmmmm. Maybe if the actor had stayed in character to keep the illusion going it wouldn't have seemed so 'off.'

Yes it is a strange little theatre but I'm glad it exists and the location is perfect. I saw the current cast two weeks ago and all my friends enjoyed it and said it was good. Two years ago I took another group and it was much funnier (original cast?!) everyone came out saying it was fantastic. Seems to have dropped a little with recasting.
I also wish they didn't announce their other shows at the end. A bit uncouth maybe.
