They may not 'want' it, but money talks and they have a responsibility to the venue. Like anything when someone takes a leadership role, until they are in place and see the numbers and reality of what the show does for the venue I don't think you can be sure of anything. |

A Christmas Carol is like the Old Vic's panto in that it brings in the revenue that funds the following year. They could take it out on tour and rest it a couple of years but they'd never get rid of it completely.

Important to remember that as well as being a revenue generator, A Christmas Carol also raises a lot of money for charity every year. This show has sold very well over the last couple of years - I just can't see Old Vic dropping it any time soon.

Oh it'll have a life beyond the Old Vic.
A new AD just isn't going to want 1/5 slots a year held up with their predecessors big hit.
It'll tour or do some of the big houses that don't do panto or something with a royalty for the OV, meaning the new AD can really have autonomy over the programme.

It'll probaby depend who's the next AD is. I imagine if it's say Rachel O'Riordan, she would probably want to do some sort of family show every year in the November-January even if it isn't ACC to bring in the dosh. |

I’m not sure about seeing this version: I’ve seen John Simm in Three Days in the Country at the NT so he’s not one of those actors I feel I need to tick off a bucket list but I don’t think the Old Vic should just churn out productions of this year in, year out to make a few bob, surely the point of higher level artistic institutions is to go into uncharted territories and put on new productions?

But I thought the Old Vic put pictures of the likes of Burton and O’Toole up in the lobby to show that they are artists, not theatrical Del Boys (dear boy): although I note they’ve hidden any evidence of Spacey in recent years. 🫤 |

It probably brings in a different audience from the rest of their plays, and most theatres seem to have widening their audience demographics as a goal. Last year I sat next to an older (60+) couple who’d never been to the OV before, and of course it brings in lots of children.

How's everybody feeling about the casting of John Simm as Scrooge?
Personally I'm really happy about it. I think the excitement will snowball when the first reactions of his performance come through and etc.

I've seen him in Betrayal and Three Days in the Country. In fact I thought he was more deserving of the Olivier than Gatiss in the latter.

I was no. 255 in the queue, but still didn't manage to get any tickets cause the website kept coming up with an error when adding to basket. Very frustrating 😒

A trick is to add separate seats from another part of the auditorium and then remove them at the checkout stage - if the seats you wanted are still available then you will be able to make the purchase. |

I got red warnings saying there was a basket error on mine so did the above and it worked. Perhaps it was a browser issue. |
