Kids don't really like things that come across as uncanny to them; when my niece was small, she was alright with ghosts and villains in shows because they looked how she would expect a ghost or a villain to look (I took her to the original Mary Poppins and very purposefully sat in the slips in case Miss Andrew or Temper Temper were too much for her and she was absolutely fine) but she absolutely could not handle a pantomime dame and would sit and howl about not liking the man in the dress. With that in mind, I don't remember anything in this production that gives off the same sort of over-stylised threatening vibe as Nicole Kidman in Paddington, so I would cautiously say "go for it".

Last year sitting next to me on the front row there was a pair of bratty Australian girls, about 8 and 11, I'd guess, dragged along by Granny and Grandpa. They bitched for 20 minutes before the show about preferring to be on their phones and basically anywhere except where they were... When the pre-show began and actors started talking to them they went a bit quiet. When the first snow fell on them their mouths were open and you saw the true child in their sparkling eyes. They spent the interval arguing about which ghost was best and if Scrooge was bad or not. They left in tearful silence that they couldn't see it again. I think it's a safe bet lynette. They... "LOVE Christmas!" |

I'm so pleased, I think it's a lovely piece. I enjoyed the scruffy and rather erratic Rhys Ifans more than tidy and rather uptight Stephen Tompkinson; I hope they get the casting right. |

Good for A Christmas Carol transferring to Broadway but the Lyceum is quite a small theatre so I do wonder if they’ll make changes to accommodate the set

I've had a look at Telecharge for the Broadway production of this and the seating chart looks like it will be in a normal proscenium set up opposed to in the round, which I think is a bit of a shame if it is but it also makes me curious how they will adapt it into a pros arch production.

I had a link for £30 tickets during the week but it's my work email, don't have access right now. It's come up in the GILT tickets in previous years if you can wait to see it in January 2020.

Initial thoughts, Twelfth Night which gives me till the 6th Jan.

It does look that way, doesn't it. I agree, a bit of a shame as half the appeal is that it happens all over the theatre. They say "no late seating" though, so maybe they've figured out something. In this rehearsal video, you can see a glimpse of the set model box. By the look of it it will be end-on, but the cross of the stage is still there and the front of the stage does look like it has extended beyond the arch. http://instagram.com/p/B3kJ97WpYOl |

Based on the really positive reviews posted on here, decided to book for a January viewing thanks to the offers on 🐒 website. The mince pies that are given out may have also been a contributing factor in the decision making process.

Prices for this eye-watering. How restricted view are the row P side stalls seats please? I prefer the side stalls seats running alongside the stage. If they are rear stalks seats you'll possibly have a pillar in the way but you'll get a great view of Jacob Marley's entrances/exits. |

Just a heads up that there are some reasonably priced seats up now behind row T stalls. I’ve just grabbed a pair (£57.50 and £20). Thank god I didn’t plump for the £150 ones!

Saw the first preview tonight. As heartwarming as always and Paterson Joseph makes for a very pernickity, fussy, eye-rolling almost OCD'ish Scrooge. His diction is the best of the three Scrooges at the OV. The orchestrations have been tweaked in places and some interesting new light effects added. The snow was epic - the stalls were literally covered. I've been a fan of Paterson Joseph since his early RSC days and he really is a fine actor. For me though, this production is made by Myra Macfadyen who is just brilliant as Christmas Past. "You have made an idol of gold" is said with such regret, and in admonishing Scrooge we are all reminded of our fallibility. Definitely worth seeing.

Also succumbed, got a ticket for the Sat matinee before Christmas for £20 on TodayTix.
A full on Christmasy Day, A Christmas Carol followed by the Panto at the Palladium.
