Very excited and happy it is transferring as have missed it at the old vic and I assume they will be doing day seats as the front row are not on sale but when I went on delfont mackintosh they don have tickets available for the 29th of December even though that's when it opens. It seems very odd. I look forward to treating my self with this as post Christmas ,pre new year treat( it feels too early to think about that sorry) I also hope the old vic cast go with it and I just want to see it!!!

By the by, if anyone is still thinking this thread should be in the Musicals section, I'd just like to draw your attention to the fact that Delfont Mackintosh also has this production listed under Plays.

They can't even redecorate a theatre on time. I think I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt.

A play with songs which has a prominent music and lyrics credit ... ... its a musical. It's structured quite differently from most traditional musicals. "Play with songs" is an accurate description.

As someone who didnt see the first run of this show.. What is your take on the casting this time round ..newbies and orginals all things considered.. ? Most of the original cast remained and they are those who really sing (very beautifully). The main changes are in two non singing roles and one (Mr Burke) who has one short duet. I am sure it will remain a great show. I have seen it twice and I will see it again (probably twice).

Got back from seeing the matinee today and was looking forward too it a lot as missed it at the Old vic but it fell a bit flat for me. Was very intrigued by it and really wanted to love it but just didn't. The songs and singing was really good in this show and that is definitely the strongest point of the show. The story however was not as good. For me it was all a bit dull. Took my mum and dad a small they both wanted to see it and we all agreed that we didn't really like Shirley Hendersons performance and it was all a bit over the top and didn't really feel genuine and looking at the trailer online it seems that it was a bit more toned down which I think would have worked better. The rest of the cast were good but thought Shelia Ativan was really good. I also wanted to feel a lot more emotionally involved but just didn't . Did enjoy it but not as much as I wanted to.
*Also I don't think my memory is that bad but a Bob Dylan song I like a lot is girl from the north counry but I do not remember it in the show. It is on the cast album but have they cut it or has my memory just become really bad or is it a backing song or something?

@robadog, my thoughts exactly when I saw it at The Old Vic. The only difference that I'm a big Dylan fan and found those renditions riverting and some of them truly outstanding.
Re Girl - you could hear just a little bit of the melody on the background but only as a part of another song (Like they did with The Rolling Stones/ I Want You - thought that very clever, btw) - can be easily missed. I was confused too why the song in the title is not even properly in the show!

I've noticed on the Delfont Mackintosh website that it not only categorises this piece as a musical, but also blatantly announces a gunshot within the show! Hope that's not a big spolier alert like it would be in {Spoiler - click to view} The Ferryman Looking forward to seeing this soon.

Don’t worry about the gunshot. I loved the show but don’t even remember a gunshot!

Lot's of plays have incidental music, but surely this is a play with songs, which makes it a musical in my book. There's isn't much glitz and glamour, if that is now the criteria, in Les Miserables!
