The trailer looks beautiful, but those vocals sounded so, so autotuned. Synthetic to the point of reminding me of Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast - and come on, I'm no fan of Cynthia but by god the woman can sing, no need for autotune. They also made her voice sound a bit - maybe 'slight' is the word? - in places, which is weird.
It is very pretty though, and it sounds as though they might have fixed the riff. If the one they use part way through is actually lifted from the end of Defying Gravity, that is.

I don’t think we’ll hear the actual end of DG until the film is released. They know how iconic that is, there’s absolutely no reason to spoil it in advance.

I really like the look of it. The choices of some of those notes, not so much. I'm not saying it should be sung as if she has a metronome and it's a sight-singing exercise, but there are too many improvisations there for me.

The pitch correction isn't that bad. Universal are quite good at making calls on that, having a record subsidiary and all. Won't hold my breath though until the film comes out. Pitch correction is made to enhance performances, not replace the need for a good performance outright. You still need to sing and act  |

Apparently some more recent test screenings haven’t gone well at all. Too long, too many dance breaks in every song.

Apparently some more recent test screenings haven’t gone well at all. Too long, too many dance breaks in every song. So an adaptation of a musical contains too much of the musical and too much Broadway musical stuff like dancing? I thought the point of it being two parts was precisely because they wanted to accurately capture all elements of the musical on film? So by the sounds of it they've done that and now people are complaining? |

Too long?? Has a final running time been announced yet? There has been something floating around today about the film being 2 hours and 22 minutes. This has seemingly come from the Australian movie classification board but I can’t find it myself on the website so can’t confirm how true it is. |

The length is very concerning for sure. Can you stretch one act of material (which I already think is overly long) to a show's length? Oh well, if they did it with Joseph... oh that's getting a film too! I forgot about that |

So they’ve announced that the second movie will simply be called Wicked Part Two releasing 21st November 2025

Has there been any gossip about Cynthia being “Cynthia” on set? No gossip. Just facts. She is not liked by the crew.
E.g. On location, Ariana had 2 gazebo tents because of her huge bubble dress, Cynthia only had 1 gazebo. She complained and then had it written in contract that if one of them got something, the other had to have it.
She won't work after a certain time, even if there is only 15 mins left to do that day, she will take breaks up to the very last minute and not be on set a second before.
She didn't go to her own screen tests for her green make-up.
However, everyone has said that she is phenominal in the role, but that doesn't excuse the behaviour.
Second biggest diva: Jonathan Bailey
Most down to earth: Michelle Yeo. She even gets the train in some days, rather than have a driver.
These two were the biggest divas meanwhile Ariana grande and Ethan slater were having an open affair on set?  Not that I don’t believe you but Jesus, if they were worse than that they must have been pretty bad. Not for nothing but Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey aren’t a - list actors, why do they think they have the name to be divas on set? |

Or is Part Two going beyond the Musical's book? Not seen this on-stage - does it divide into two complete, independent but related stories?

Calling this Wicked Part One would be an awful marketing move. The latest Mission Impossible movie was called Dead Reckoning Part One and despite being a great movie it underperformed at the box office to the point where they removed the Part One from the title and have renamed the second movie to something else. Jon Chu also said this recently about that marketing deciton (from Entertainment Weekly) There will still be two films as previously announced (they just bumped up its release date by five days in fact), but Chu hopes the lack of Part One branding helps emphasize their goal of creating a complete film unto itself. “This isn't half the homework,” he insists. “If we were going to split it into two, we need to make sure that movie one is emotionally satisfying and by the end, you feel like that was a f---ing movie. I don't like movies where you leave and feel like, ‘Well, I’ve got to wait for the next one.’ This should leave you with the highest of highs and so connected to these women.” |

I fail to see how they can make it emotionally satisfying. Are there plot points in the novel but not the show that could be used as a conclusion to part one? Because Defying Gravity is not it and I can’t think of another.
