I hope this is the right place to talk about the Wicked movie? As usual, they'll most likely cast celebrities over people who actually have the skills to pull off the roles. But if they insisted on only casting "stars", who should they cast in the movie?
This would be my cast:
Elphaba - Katharine McPhee Glinda - Kristen Bell Fiyero - Joseph Gordon-Levitt Nessa - Anna Kendrick Boq - Daniel Radcliffe Madam Morrible - Meryl Streep or Imelda Staunton Doctor Dillamond - Bill Nighy The Wizard - Kevin Spacey

Metal Streep would be great as Madamme Morrible! Is that the robot version of Meryl Streep? I doubt that Daniel Radcliffe would star in what is a thankless role, I think Boq would go to someone like Ben Platt who is known but not a huge name.

Let's hope Tom Hooper's free to direct. ;-)

I'd like to see at least one of the witches (Elphaba/Glinda) go to an unknown, either a complete fresh face, or a theatre actress. this movie would sell on the name "Wicked" alone, sprinkle some celebs with chops (Kristen Bell for example is a huge YES from me). But please no Tom Hooper! ha! Rob Marshall maybe?
Also I'd love to see Idina/ Kristin at least make a cameo! that could be so fun

Ben Platt is a big possibility as his father is the producer

But if they really want to cast screen actors, I think Kat would be the best option. I think Kristin will be the Midwife and Idina will be Elphaba's mother

I don't think Katharine Mcphee has a strong enough belt (I've only heard her in Smash, so I could be wrong) but I thought Megan outbelted her every time, while Mcphee's voice was softer (still very nice, but I don't know if she'd fit for Elphaba) I actually can't think of any mainstream actress or singer who is also big broadway style belter... not of the top of my head anyway..

I thought her rendition of Don't forget me was better than Megan's, so I definitely think she could do it. But other than her I can't think of any mainstream actress/singer who could pull it off. Although I think that Ariana Grande could definitely hit all the notes, but she'd have to articulate better.

I hope this is the right place to talk about the Wicked movie? [...] This would be my cast: Elphaba - Katharine McPhee[...] Surely you're joking? That Katharine McPhee who has such a thin and breathy voice? That Katharine McPhee who can't act? Who has dead eyes? Who is outsung by Megan Hilty each and every time? I'm still gutted that her version of Don't forget me made it to the Smash soundtrack. It's so painful to listen to that version. Megan's was so much better. Why would anyone want to see her in anything? Not even if they paid me.

would LOVE to see Ben Platt as Boq!!
As long as they don't cast Harry Styles (or the like) as Fiyero I'm all good

That would completely ruin the movie for me. I don't like her belting. Good head voice and all, but don't like the belting at all.

If they try to be clever with the casting it's likely to be another disaster a la Phantom Of The Opera. Just cast someone we all know can actually act it, and sing it, and who won't let us all down dreadfully. Lea Michele can do that. In fact, bring Idina back. It's not too late!

As much as I respect her for all the work that she's done, I don't like her Elphaba vocally speaking. And I think they both are too old to play the roles again. I'm all for them casting people based on skills alone. But knowing Hollywood, they'll go for fame over skills. I get that some people are skeptical about Katharine as Elphaba, but she's literally the only mainstream actress other than Lea Michele that I can think of who could actually pull it off. I'd be able to live with them casting Lea Michele, but I wouldn't be too happy about it.

Lea is 3 years younger than Katharine McPhee I meant Idina and Kristin are too old. I think Lea and Katharine are both about the right age, so that shouldn't be an issue. In general I prefer Katharine's voice, but I've never heard Katharine sing anything from Wicked so I don't know how that will sound. I think she could do it but that still remains to be seen

I think it's safe to say that Kristin and Idina aren't going to be the film Glinda and Elphaba. When it was being suggested like 5 years ago it wouldn't have been realistic, let alone now.
Is Katherine McPhee really a mainstream draw? I've only ever seen her in Smash where I personally think she was outsung by Megan Hilty every time, and had next to no personality. Is she really a 'name'? Maybe I just don't watch the right shows/films.
Just thinking of casting this show frustrates me. On stage if the cast is less than stellar you can come back after cast change and try again. The movie has to get it totally right and I really don't know if they will. I'd rather see stage actresses for Elphaba and Glinda, and stunt casting for Fiyero / The Wizard/ Morrible if need be.
