I'm surprised, would have thought Paul Mescal's availability would have delayed a transfer.
The only theatres that is available from March is the Phoenix which seems a bit big.

Oh, boy. After managing to open Cabaret with two of the three main parts miscast, Rebecca Frecknall tops herself with a full house. Admittedly it's hard to cast Stanley given the feminisation of leading men in the past 75 years but still. It feels like a school play where you put the one pupil who can act in the main role regardless of suitability. With the lack of chemistry in the cast and the bare staging it could hardly be less atmospheric. Is Frecknall aware this is a play performed properly by Anderson and Kirby in recent memory? If this mess goes to the West End it is the sort of production which puts casual theatre goers off for years. At least at the Almeida with Mescal's box office appeal it is only playing to theatre devotees and his fans. Have you ever liked a single thing that the theatre industry has to offer? Baffled why you continue to come to this board when seemingly there is no joy to be found in this medium for you. "Feminisation of leading men?" Daily Mail comment sections would be more approporiate for you. They'd also be quite welcoming of your vitriol there. |

I saw this one Saturday and I thought it was stunning. Beautifully cast and with palpable sexual chemistry between Blanche and Stanley and Stanley and Stella the play truly sizzled. The spartan design liberated the play in a way that was always surprising. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see it again. Wow.

Whens the Oscars? i assume aftersun means Mescal MAY have to bail on performances now I can't see the Academy going mad for Aftersun, as brilliant as I thought it was. I think it might be a bit too low-key to get big noms. Happy to be proved wrong though. When Lesley Manville had to fly over for the Oscars in 2018 while doing Long Day's Journey in the WE, I don't think she missed a performance. Flew straight out after the Saturday night performance and was back for the start of the next week. I stand corrected... well done, Paul! |

Well I recon there’ll be £25 tix in the back of the upper circle but I’d say a huge portion if stalls and dress will be premium £100+ |

Amused that at the Q&A at the Almeida last night the question was asked directly about a transfer and Mescal said "who knows... I think there have been talks going on..."

I find it difficult to begrudge the Almedia given the pricing of their ticket at home base, and the extensive community outreach programmes. If you wanted to see it off Upper Street, it hasn't been easy but not really so hard.
