Ridiculously pompous woman who hasn't quite managed to let go of Harry Potter since finishing the last book in 2007. I wouldn't expect she frequently visits the theatre as in her talking about Cursed Child she seems to know little about the art form, the theatre community or how anybody who isn't a Potterhead(?) actually thinks.

She does have a habit of coming across as a bit superior on twitter at times, especially if facing any kind of criticism. Shame as I've always been a big fan of hers, but that's the downside of Twitter.

Just writing a play that is oh so important it has to span two nights has put me off her. I know there are other plays like this out there, but by people with no theatrical expierence? To me it just seems lazy overindulgence.

Yes, but she has also claimed that she didn't realise at first that Harry Potter is fantasy, so, you know, the whole categorisation thing is not her strong suit.

...and she doesnt like musicals, big deal - I suspect millions of people in the UK dont like musicals but it doesnt bother me.

Previews start tomorrow so it will be interesting to hear the audiences opinions. Previews are running for two months so I think they're quite open to feedback and change. It's been said a few times that it will be clear why they have chosen to do this as a play rather than a book/movie and why it is in two parts so again it will be interesting to see what everyones first opinions are. |

It's perfectly fine to dislike musicals, and to be vocal about it too... but to make a point that musicals are not theatre (and musical theatre performers are what..? They don't perform live to an audience? Or maybe a song isn't magical as opposed to a scene reading straight...) I don't know- I can see why people in musical THEATRE are taking offence.. |

Musicals are not considered high performance art. They are not ballet, opera or classical music, and they are not Shakespeare or drama like Ibsen, Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, etc.
The reality is that musicals are actually pretty simplistic, popular and earnest. Nothing wrong with that, clearly I am on a musicals board and musicals are the thing I am most passionate about in life. To call musicals not "theatre" is factually wrong. I think what she means to say is that musicals is not the highest form of theatre, which, I think she is entitled to.

Some might say that her Harry Potters aren't books... (I've never been able to make it to the end of page one, so I'm not qualified to speak really. But I've sat through a film, and that was bad enough. And that Harry Potter Studio was summed up by some drunken man being "filmed" against a green curtain riding a broomstick. Only he wasn't riding it so much as... well, I'm sure you can guess.)
None of it High Literature...
