There isn't actually a forest set. The theatre goes dark (all exit signs are turned off etc) and Bane emerges from the back of the stage. We only see his legs and torso (4 legs) but it's all very well done. Is that even legal?! Sounds like an OHS nightmare. I've seen it happen elsewhere. I think it was a production of Black Comedy. The theatre posted someone at each door and refused to allow anyone to enter the auditorium while the lights were off, and I assume there were people inside who could raise the alarm if something happened. |

Sorry this is so random, I'm just wondering for those who've been to the show if the programme has any headshots or cast bios in it. I haven't been able to find anything like it yet. I'm particularly interested in Cristina Fray's potential headshot and bio.
Also, does Hugo just not exist in this play? It sounds like no one mentions him at all from what I've read here.

JK Rowling came up with the story along with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany but the actual script is Jack Thorne I've read that they came up with the idea with JK's blessing and she gave them freedom to do what they wanted within the world she created. But it was their ideas and plot. |

It's a gorgeously put-togther programme. Similar to the Kenneth Brannagh Season programmes. Sturdy. All the cast have had new headshots taken for the production, I assume by the same photographer, as they are identical. I cannot wait to see what happens tonight. I've been discussing with my partner about what could possibly happen! |

The programme confirms that JKR had already thought about what would happen next and that these ideas form the play. I don't doubt the other 2 didn't contribute heavily, but there's no way JKR let them have free reign: she's far too protective of her work. Plus JKR confirmed on Oprah around 2010 that she could easily write books 8, 9 and 10 because she had the ideas in place. When book 7 was published, she did a documentary during which she outlined what a lot of characters would be doing after book 7 and she has stayed true to that. I'd love to know what the original pitch was though that convinced her to work on a sequel. That's what I was saying, that she was involved, so not sure why you're saying that's not quite right? She's released a lot of information on her post-DH canon over the years. |

JK Rowling's clearly still loves writing about the wizarding world hence why she's released spin-off materials like Beedle the Bard, Quidditch through the Ages and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films which IIRC she was approached by Warner Bros to see if she thought it was a good idea and then ended up writing the screenplay.

The Stage are reporting that the Owls have been dropped. A real shame as it was a "oh wow" moment. But I guess they're just too unpredictable!

If that's the case that is sad, it was a beautiful moment even if it did distract me because of the kerfuffle in the dress circle to try and catch it. I wonder if the signs about live animals will still be up in the theatre tonight (assuming owls were the only live animals). Who knows, maybe we'll be seeing a snake.

My mind is melting. The dementors are stunning, as is the patronus we got to see. Noma is easily my favourite of the principals, she just is Hermione.
There's another prophecy. I'm not sure I like the wording of it. We'll see where we go from here.

I think there's no easy way to sum up all we saw. I feel like an awful lot happened this evening. We started in a world where Harry was dead and via some more time travelling we ended up with a happy ending. Scorpius corrected the mistakes made by him and Albus before ending up back where we started with them in Hogwarts. Things then take a turn for the darker which leads to a show down against someone (not with Voldemort) and our original trio, Ginny, Draco, Albus and Scorpius.
I for one did really enjoy it, in the interval in part 1 I was excited about where we were going and what was going to hapen. After part 1 I was interested in seeing what a world without Harry looked like but sure we'd get everything sorted out eventually. In the interval today I was a little confused as to where we were. Now though I'm very happy with the overall story and I'm ready to accept the things we now know. (I'm a bit confused as to why Draco didn't know about the thing that was mentioned that happened in the Malfoy Mannor). It will definitely make rereading the books interesting. I know for some people it possibly won't be so easy.
The second half of part 2 is by far my favourite. It's full of eye watering moments which are beautifully done along with some touching scenes and the characters exactly as they should be. I know it's the spoiler thread but I don't want to be the one to spill all the beans. Sorry to be so vague, I'm sure someone will tomorrow but I don't feel like being the one to do it now as I need to sleep.

That seems a little churlish since you were so willing to tell all about Part 1 . Sounds like Part 2 must have been quite disappointing by comparison if you've decided not to share.

I confess I'm not a big Harry Potter fan, although I've seen most of the films. A lot of fans online seem to be quite upset by the spoilers. Do we think this will be lessened for those that go to see the play? How much better does it play out on stage than written up?

Well, last night was spectacular. I could sit through both parts again and again.
Part 1 was definitely more of a spectacle, part 2 much more story driven. There isn't as much magic in part 2 and my partner joked that the budget must have dried up because there is just so much of it in Part 1.
I feel immensely privileged to have seen the first 2 previews. J K Rowling sat in one of the boxes last night to rapturous applause. Something poignant about watching her watching Harry Potter,
I urge you all to see it, if you can!
