Was it actually a real owl? I was convinced, from my seat in the Upper, that it was somehow mechanical, but it then it flew back at the wrong time, so I wasn't sure! Definitely a real owl, it was meant to fly into one of the dress circle boxes but decided to fly to the one on the other side. This meant the animal handler ran up the stairs, across the back and down the other side to get it. Of course once he got there it decided to fly off again towards the originally intended box, however it ended up possibly at the bottom of the stairs at the edge of the circle rather than in the box. Then everyone clapped at something and it flew off. It was very distracting and the man in the box was shining his red torch and calling it to come back.

Interesting there's no curtain call at Part One. I guess it's appropriate in context as the story is halfway there.

That's a bit weird but I assume that they'll add one later on otherwise it'll just be like a really long interval where you applaud but the actors don't come out. I'm sure other two or three part plays like Henry IV and Angels in America have had curtain calls.

Im not sure really. Given this ends on a bit of a cliffhanger maybe the producers think a curtain call would detract from the continuity across the 2 parts

It just ends with 'to be continued…' and the house lights come up, which I thought worked brilliantly.

I wonder if this will differ depending on whether it's a consecutive performance or not, ie if it's a consecutive one they won't bother because everyone will be coming back later that same day or the next day, but if it's a non-consecutive they will do one knowing that there's no guarantee people will have booked for part two yet.

In terms of set, the story takes place all over the place. Hogwarts, The Ministry, The Forbidden Forest, The Lake, the Girl's Toilet on the First floor even get's a look in.
I'd cut the long scene on the Hogwart's express with the Trolley Witch and also the invisibility cloak scene which is merely gratuitous and adds nothing to the play.

[spoilers] I need time to process the rest but it's all very, very well done. This will never leave the west end. Thank you for the review, Kevin! And how's Jamie Parker? (sorry the only thing that interests me about this ) My friend is now making sure I watch the films but I'm not very impressed by the story or characters I must admit...

I'd cut the bit where Harry is disappointed by the cost of living in London and moves to the countryside, getting a much better mortgage deal and retiring peacefully.

It's all so beautifully done. You really feel like you're watching something truly magical, and the dementors at the end were absolutely fantastic!

He is very good. Get past the fact he doesn't sound like Daniel Radcliffe (takes 10 seconds) and he basically is an older Harry Potter. Not to discredit his acting abilities, but I think the fact JKR has been involved means the script (despite not writing it herself) really does give us a familiar Harry, which helps us warm to him as Harry instantly. Thus far, it isn't a hugely challenging part. He has plenty of stage time, but I didn't feel like he was the main character at all - which is probably why Jamie isn't being pushed to the front above the rest of the cast. Thanks! Frankly by watching the films I could not understand how we all are supposed to like the character of Harry. He is so boring... Or is it just me? )
So judging by the events in Part 1 does it mean that where will be no Jamie in Part 2?

I'm sure Jamie will appear in part 2, would be odd for him to be one part but not the other. Harry likely won't stay dead for long.
I get the feeling something bad will happen to Scorpius in part 2 but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm sure Harry will be around again soon too. I think that Scorpius will find where he is now very interesting, I have a funny feeling that he's very popular there. I have no idea what will cause him to get out the time turner and try to get back to normal but I think we have to be very glad that Albus took Scorpius along with him or we'd be stuck forever!

The burden of legacy might play a part in Scorpius' decision to fix the timeline. Being Voldemort's son if that turns out to be true could be the crux of it.

Well I assume Scorpius will discover in his altered universe, that he is the son of Voldemort and presumably will meet certain death eaters (but this is his altered future - I do believe Draco is his father). He'll be appalled and return to the past a 3rd time, but presumably he'll need to return to a time before task 1 in order to correct Cedric's and Harry's fate? It'll be quite interesting to see a world where Voldemort won. If the Battle of Hogwarts was never fought, there's a huge chance a lot of other dead characters might get a reprieve before Scorpius changes the timeline. However I don't see that lasting long - maybe an hour? In the present Voldemort's allies are aligning and Harry's scar is hurting (which despite Ron's diagnosis, I doubt is because he's 'getting older') - and this all takes place before Voldemort gets a reprieve in the past. Bane mentioned another war, so something is going to go down, but who could be gathering folk? I've always wondered if Bellatrix was pregnant when she was put into Askaban the first time, but that's just me fanboying. I wonder if Scorpius will have make the terrible decision of having to let Cedric die in order to fix things. I've been reading up on the time turner and it's unstable magic so I do wonder how it ended up in the hands of an eleven year boy given that Hermione had to get permission to use one in Prisoner of Azkaban.

They steal the timturner from the Ministry. It is the only one left after they were all destroyed.

Do you mean I have to watch Part 2 as well?!! Kidding. Thanks for your answers. I should've assumed that this kind of magic extends long way beyond someone's death..

The London Annual 50 Hour Improvathon manages to go from Friday 7pm right through to Sunday 9pm before they finally have a curtain call so I wouldn't be so sure

[spoilers] WHERE ON EARTH DO YOU START? I've been literally sat on the edge of my (newly refurbished) seat. As soon as I walked in and saw the stage (prior to the show starting the curtain isn't down) I just knew it was going to start with the last chapter of book 7. And that it when my heart began to panic and suddenly it wasn't JKR's book, but mine and I had to be protective of it at all costs. Except it isn't mine and what is done is done. When they started and they played out that last chapter, I wasn't impressed with the retconning - where is all this extra dialogue coming from? This isn't how you wrote it JKR! But I took a deep breathe and let it wash by - because it didn't make any difference. Then things moved very quickly and it started to lead me down a road I wasn't prepared for: Harry didn't get a happy ending and whilst Voldemort (with JKR's original pronunciation) was gone, that didn't mean that they all lived happily ever after... and they really drive the point home. Obviously he couldn't because there'd be no story, but those books were my childhood and I can't believe she's done this to me.
But I deal with it and then discover that Harry's son befriend's his nemesis' son and becomes a Slytherin. I tell myself this makes no difference and quickly remind myself Snape, Regulus and Slughorn were all decent Slytherins. I breathe and let them continue but they continue to mess with my mind by announcing the possibility that SCORPIUS MIGHT BE VOLDEMORT'S SON. Cue an audible gasp around the entire theatre. We then travel through time, through scene after scene after scene and we meet the bigger characters we loved from the books and it felt a bit like coming home. Brownie points team, brownie points. Then they do their worst. Their very worst. They kill off Harry Potter and bring back Voldemort. Then set dementors on the audience. All I can say is thank god I'm an adult who understands the time travel bit and the idea that all will come right in the end - but 10 year old me would be sobbing between parts 1 and 2. I need time to process the rest but it's all very, very well done. This will never leave the west end. JK didn't have actually write it though. Did she? I thought it was Jack Thorne.

JK Rowling came up with the story along with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany but the actual script is Jack Thorne

Oh I bet the Forbidden Forest is a magical set! There isn't actually a forest set. The theatre goes dark (all exit signs are turned off etc) and Bane emerges from the back of the stage. We only see his legs and torso (4 legs) but it's all very well done. Is that even legal?! Sounds like an OHS nightmare.

I'm sure people can wait 30 seconds, and it would be tremendously unlikely if someone became violently ill or something and needed to run out during those few minutes. Anyway in a genuine emergency surely they'd turn the house lights on asap?
