I have a vague feeling there was a low-key revival [of Billy] at the Union a few years back. I have no idea why I didn't go and see it, because I really love the score and I was always at the Union around that time. So that would be another show I never got to see and really should have done. There was, in 2013. It was a smashing production, with Keith Ramsay in the lead. I’ve never seen the original, and at the time I hadn’t even heard any of the score, but I found Keith mesmerising, and the show was full of energy. It inspired me to track down the original cast recording. Lovely stuff. Another vote for Kiss of the Spider Woman from me, it’s the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title!

I saw Bombay Dreams, I didn't particularly care for it at all. I can just about remember 1 line from 2 songs. I really wish I had seen the off west end In The Heights, so if anyone wants to revive that it would be great. Also, I am a massive Elvis fan and I went to New York the first time about 20 years ago to see 1-2 shows a day for 10 days and I had booked All Shook Up, but it had closed by the time my holiday came around and I was GUTTED. It was great, so much energy and loved the thrust presentation. I'm surprised there wasn't a production mounted hot off the back of the movie. Another one for the list I never got to see... Sunday in the Park with Jake Gyllenhaal. weep.

I've said this before: I was in NYC for business and had a free evening. Choice at tkts was The Boy From Oz with Hugh Jackman, or Thoroughly Modern Millie with Sutton Foster. I still regret not seeing Jackman.

I'm also old enough to have seen many of the shows mentioned.
I saw Bombay Dreams twice: at the first showing a young 13-14 yo Daniel Radcliffe was seated on my row.
I, like many others here, would have liked to see Billy, not least because Michael Crawford and Elaine Paige were both in it!
Stop the World - I Want to Get Off is another because of Anthony Newley, but I did see Anne Quayle (who also starredt) later in The Boyfriend.

Metropolis was remarkable for the amazing set and Judy Kuhn's amazing London debut. The score is pretty uninspiring but she made those songs sound far better than they actually were. Dear Anyone with Jane Lapotaire is one I regret not seeing as I loved Agony as a sitcom, and the concept album with Maggie Moone has some great moments. ( The title song is as good as anything Don Black wrote for Tell Me on a Sunday.)

Billy must have been huge in its day to run in Drury Lane for two years. Is it badly dated or is there any other reason it doesn't get revived? Random I know, but JD was due to tour in this back in around 1995 but it got cancelled before it even started.
Jason Donovan?

Yep! I remember we’d booked dates for most venues.

Interesting! Well that was starting to get into his "tricky" years!! This would have been not long before The Rocky Horror Show, which he wasn't consistent in turning up for!

A few years back Don Black was talking about reviving it but nothing came of it, sadly.

There was another ill-fated production of Billy with Jonathan Morris, which never opened. I have a flyer for it , dated 1991, from the Palace Theatre in Manchester. It’s one musical I’d like to see revived .

Hair - another one I've just thought of. In New York in 2010 on my last night I had to choose between Hair and Arthur Laurents revival of West Side Story. I chose WSS as I'd never seen it on stage and I thought it would be very exciting to see it in New York where it was set. The production was so dreary (you wouldn't think it possible with such a great piece) like something that had been in mothballs since the 50s. Then Hair was announced for London but it flopped and closed before I could get over from Ireland to see it. I've always regretted missing it - twice.

I regret not seeing Hadestown when it was on, both times. . Yes - this is a more recent one that I really regret missing as I got a bit obsessed with the Broadway cast album a while back. I’m still hoping that it will return as a commercial transfer (as opposed to another limited run at the National) at some point - it won multiple Tonys and seems to be a hit…

I did see "Bombay Dreams" and found it very enjoyable, I was getting into Bollywood films at the time and had been reading a fair amount of Indian fiction for 20 years or so. It was a good time to watch it. "ShaKalaka Baby" sounded like an authentic Bollywood classic from the moment it was released.
Would like to have seen "Matador" and "Heathcliff" - for the subjects more than anything. I blush to admit I've never see "The Rocky Horror Show" on stage, only the movie.

joem Rocky is generally always on somewhere (just like the the Mousetrap!) because of this I didn't see it for years. I've now seen 3 times and it's fab.

Would love to have seen the original production of Sunset Boulevard with Betty Buckley.
I can remember seeing her as if it was yesterday, her glorious voice ringing up to the rafters. She was stunning. And yet I also loved Glenn Close in the role despite her lacking the Buckley belt.

Likewise Elaine who was my first Norma. Went in blind and was blown away by both show and star.

I´m younger than the average board member, so there´s so many shows I didn´t get to see; but I´ll always really resent not seeing the original London Phantom with the 27-piece orchestra in my first few trips to London.

Lord of the Rings. If only there was a filmed version. Saw it 3 times - great. There was a bootleg around a few years back but it was truly awful.

Saw The Lord of the Rings.Visually stunning with some terrific direction and designs. The battle scenes were epecially exciting and well choregraphed..even thought one of the cast nearly lost a leg on the revolve but the last thing it needed was musical numbers.Imagine Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with songs! In fact I don't know if I would class it as a musical as the music tended to be "incidential" as in the movies and from my memory didn't actually forward the plot or add anything to any person's characterisation. It could have been a big spectacular theatrical experience on it's own without stopping for musical numbers bearing in mind it was presented in 3 acts and 2 intervals. The second interval was a 5 minute set change, with Uruk-hai bouncing up and down the aisles and scaring the audience, who remained seated with the house lights down. And delighted to say that Adam Salter, the chap who suffered a very nasty leg break during rehearsals, went on to make a full recovery and has long since returned to the business.
