Ivano certainly has the moves but the actor playing MJ has to completely embody the man, the way Myles does (and why I think he’s going to win the Tony next week). It’s a HARD role when you have to not only look like MJ but sing, talk and move just like him. So yes, Ivano won’t be playing MJ.

Picture a venn diagram...
On one side - Jukebox Musicals (shows which use pre-existing pop songs to tell an original story, like We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia, & Juliet)
On the other - Bio Musicals (shows which use an original score to tell the whole or part of the life story of a famous person, like Evita, Barnum, Diana)
In the middle - Jukebox Bio Musicals (shows which do the latter using the music of the former, like Tina, MJ, Beautiful)
...that’s how I tend to think of it!

We get it, you're not a fan, isn't there another drum you can go bang now?

Going back to potential MJs, Karl queensborough (Hamilton in Hamilton) is a MASSIVE MJ fan and seems to be putting himself forward from his tweets. Hamilton is a hard one to judge his singing on, but I can definitely imagine it.

Karl Queensborough (current Hamilton) has tweeted that he'd like to play MJ... He's even retweeted it. Starting to try some sort of campaign, it seems?
Weird way to go about it lol.

Oh cute, patronising. As you were. Glad that’s settled. I’d like Myles Frost to open the show here. It’s truly a sensational performance and I’m rooting for him to win that Tony.

Awful. What's next, Jimmy Savile: The Musical?

His music and story are tainted for me now, surprised to see this come back when the other Michael Jackson show a few years back did really badly.

Awful. What's next, Jimmy Savile: The Musical? Please point me in the direction of any news articles that cover him being convicted of anything? I haven’t seen them.

Savile never faced the courts but there is no doubting his guilt.
Although of a different nature, the allegations about Jackson are serious enough to leave question marks as to whether his life should be celebrated.
I can separate the man from his music which is why a show like Thriller is less problematic as it is essentially a fancy concert.

Although I love Mamma Mia! I do prefer biomusicals like Tina, Jersey Boys, Beautiful etc because at least the story and the songs work in harmony when it's about the singer or singers themselves rather than shoehorning pop songs into a new or existing story.

I think Singin' In The Rain is technically a jukebox musical, a lot of the songs existed prior to the film and they were re-used. That's the oldest one I can think of!

There is an argument that the first jukebox piece of musical theatre was The Beggar's Opera.
That took folk tunes and popular songs of the time, mixed in a few bits of opera to create the score.
And that was nearly 300 years ago

I meant Michael Jackson I know who you were taking about and that is why I responded with 2 paragraphs why I wasn't certain a show celebrating his life was appropriate.

I’m really really annoyed I didn’t see this whilst in NYC in April. I do have issues with Michael Jackson and celebrating him as a person though, but to some extent I can separate the artist from the art.
