The script is not very good but apart from a few spectacular scenes, the show was quite disappointing visually too. The volume was also so loud that it was impossible to actually enjoy the music and appreciate the 12-piece band. This problem applies to most West End shows though. I’m glad I saw the show but I kind of regret paying full price and I don’t really have any interest in seeing it again. Totally agree! I was relieved I’d only spent £30 during previews.

Won the lottery for next week. So now I just need to win the Frost on for the evening lottery. Today Tix has told me dress circle but not anything more until the day before. Fingers crossed...

That's a whole bunch of understudies.
So a second visit, this time having 'won' the TodayTix lottery and booked my ticket only for Myles Frost to announce with a couple of days notice that he is now away on vacation.
Bah.
I got a pretty good dress circle, row G for my £30. View was good so I can't complain about that. A few empty seats dotted around but not as many as I expected from rumours about selling levels.
Kieran Alleyne was pretty good, better than in early previews. I know he's been on a lot more since then. Mitchell Zhangazha remains a highlight, his younger Michael is just excellent - probably the highlight of the evening.Derek Aidoo wasn't unfortunately as convincing as Ashley Zhangazha's Joe Jackson/Rob and while there was nothing really wrong that I can point to, I just didn't buy any of the relationship as I did first time around.
It's even more clear that the book is nonsense and the show still just ends. Just like the lights go off, we've given up on any effort of a story and so lets just sing and dance and end the show. Fair enough but you could have just done that from the start.
I haven't seen many jukebox musicals, I've seen Ain't Too Proud and Jersey Boys and that might be it. For both of them, I came away feeling like I had seen and heard a story. I learned something of the bands and the people involved. Now I admit this would be a harder job with the ubiquitous level of fame for Michael Jackson but I don't think there is anything in here. You'd have to really know nothing of him to get any story from this one.
I do agree that the sound is slightly too loud. I was pretty annoyed when I sat down, thinking that I'd bought another ticket and still no Frost and that twice was enough and I'd not try a third time. By the end, despite myself, I've found myself thinking that maybe I'll try the lottery again over the next couple of months...

From 15 mins in, Lucie Jones says Thriller by Michael Jackson is an Easter Egg for things to come in her career. Could she be the new Rachel?

Celine Dion, Kacey Musgraves & Kylie could share the role and it still wouldn’t get me to sit through that trash again!

Is it wrong to admit that when I saw this thread come back to life I assumed it was because the show was closing?

Is it really this bad? You can see plenty of 4/5 votes here and not that many 1/2. I was considering this for my London trip just to "catch up" with what's selling at the moment (looking at its recent transfer here, but a successful run in NYC), I really like MJ's music, I'm in for a spectacle, but I don't really enjoy jukebox musicals and bad plots. I think Moulin Rouge was decent for a jukebox, but still faar from my favorite.

With cheaper tickets and rush tickets now available then it's good value.

I enjoyed this when it first opened but I am already over it and would welcome something better in the Prince Edward.

I like MJ's music, not a massive fan, but was blown away by this show. I really liked the slightly immersive element at the start - when you enter the theatre, the dancers are rehearsing for MJ's tour on the stage. It's based at the time of his 1992 Dangerous World Tour. I'm amazed how well they got the early 90s feel across in the theatre. The set pieces are spectacular and they included many numbers such as "Dancing Machine" and "You Can't Win" which I didn't expect. The story is a biographical flashback told via the mechanism of an MTV interview. It's miles ahead of "Thriller Live" which was a jukebox musical and didn't capture the man at all - this does. Can't wait to go again - enjoy.

I continued to be mystified by the hate for this show.
Assuming you even get to the point of buying a ticket- to tear it apart is bizarre to me. The choreography , production values and the lead performance are sensational. I’ve seen it twice in London and both times the audience went Insane for it. Clearly an awful lot of people love it.

Because people like different things? Because it looked cheap & clunky with terrible accents & acting? Because the rude security staff & ushers peed me off before I’d even got to my seat? Because it is a puddle deep exploration of a clearly very troubled & damaged man? Because we don’t even get to see any of the show he’s supposedly rehearsing? Enough? …oh, and the Prince Edward deserves so much better!

I myself gave it 2 stars, I didn’t think it was dreadful, just a bad piece of theatre that didn’t work, I thought the spectacle just didn’t work, the same I could say for Moulin Rouge. I thought Thriller was marginally better, by which I mean I would give Thriller 2.1 votes as that had more heart. Unlike New York which didn’t have Thriller, MJ isn’t selling well here.

I honestly have no idea what it would take to impress a viewer who didn't acknowledge the brilliant work of the technical and creative teams on this show. I'm in London next week and going to have a repeat viewing now to give it support.
