The last one needed to be as long as it was, but books 4 to 6 were far too long. I still loved them all though, I was exactly the target age and got all of them from book 4 onwards the day they were released. I remember reading Deathly Hallows in about 4 hours the first time through. Then I read it again a couple of days later to take in and appreciate the detail. I didn't mind the length of Goblet, HBP or Hallows. I really don't see much in Hallows or HBP that could be cut. OOTP though was too long and there seemed to be a lot of filler and repeating the same things again and again. It felt more of a chore to read that one compared to all the others. Yes, is that the one with the same dream/prophecy sequence over and over and over and over?! I think that's the one in particular that I felt needed some cutting. I really like Goblet of Fire and I think the Deathly Hallows probably also needed to be that long. I think Half Blood Prince felt a bit of a chore at times too but that might have been a hangover from the previous book. I also found that I had lost track of all the new characters that had been introduced by that stage.

Clearly the film makers thought the same as OOTP is the second shortest film after DH2 and it cuts a lot from the book. Yes and one very important thing too.

I'd change one or two little things but people in the spoiler thread seem to really like one element that I thought didn't go down so well with tonight's audience so will be interesting to see what others think. I'd love to know what it is, hope you post about it once you've seen part 2 tomorrow. On that note I feel like the spoiler thread needs to be in two parts! I've read some stuff there but had to stop to avoid seeing part 2 spoilers, so can't post thoughts. That seems like a really sensible idea, having seen part one and being unable to chat about because as you say it would spoil part two is silly. It's strange that people have seen part one but other than the stuff here in non spoilers we don't know what the new reactions are. Also later when people start watching part one with part two months later that's very restricting for them.

It just all seemed to drag on and I always felt when I read that one, that it needed quite a bit of editing. I really loved the HBP and felt it read really well and didn't repeat itself much, which I do think all of the books do to some extent.

I just posted in the other thread but the spoiler free (and abridged) version of my thoughts goes a little like this:
Really enjoyed part one. Not so convinced by part two. I think it needs more work. Still some nice special effects (although fewer) but it drags more than part one. Much like the books, I think some cutting is in order. Actually, I'm still not convinced it needs to be in 2 parts.
Also, I don't care what JKR thinks. All shows containing witches at school should be musicals!
Overall though it was still enjoyable. I liked the touch of handing out a second "keep the secrets" badge to complement the first!!

The travesty about the whole Harry Potter phenomenon? That The Worst Witch hasn't been made into a mega musical. Used to love the book(s?) and TV movie

Here you go kids. Diana Rigg AND Tim Curry! And he sings! I remember my dad wouldn't let me watch this once (as in it was being shown on tv and in those days that would have been my only chance) because i dropped too much fish food into the tank and the fish where going to eat themselves to death. I wonder if this is why I'm fat? Still trying to get Daddies love?? I digress

Except it involved talcum powder rather than fish food.)

I loved reading the Worst Witch when I was little and recently discovered there are a couple more books so quickly read them to catch up. They'd make a fun musical.
Back to Harry though, has anyone had any luck at all with spotting/buying any tickets on their website in the last few days? I think the last time I saw any was almost a week ago (Thursday, before I rushed off to see part 2). I'm considering parting with my late July tickets and letting a friend and his boyfriend go because it's his 30th Birthday a couple days after the performances and have been asked how to get tickets. Of course I want to see it again sometime soon so am wondering if I'm just being unlucky when I pop on the website or if others aren't really seeing any either. Guess I've got to decide if I'm going to be selfish and go myself or let the two of them go.

I wouldn't be surprised if they moved the tickets thst used to appear into the lottery allocation, now that things are underway.

Can't see if it's been asked before, but are they stinging us for 1 programme or 2, or 1 very expensive programme for both? Mentioned earlier in the thread but I think it can be forgiven for not trawling back. £5, covers both parts I believe and has lots of nice photos apparently.

You know what would be great? A paper insert they hand out at the end of part 2 that has full cast info of who plays which characters, for anyone who wants to know. Or update the cast board in the foyer during act 2 of part 2 so people can look at the end.

I thought the cast board was updated at the end of part 2 yesterday, but I admit I only looked it very briefly as I was trying hard to extract myself from the swarms of people loitering in the lobby. And looking back at the programme there are one or two names in there that I hadn't realised were in it. A paper insert is a brilliant idea though. They already have people handing out badges so might as well add the cast list to it. Surprised they're not selling a Part 2 programme really. Good chance to fleece people for even more money. Maybe they will post-previews.

Out of interest, how does the badge thing work? Do they try and give them to as many people as possible or do you have to make a beeline for a staff member?
I don't want to miss out on them (sad that may be)! I wonder how long they'll keep giving them out, until press night I guess?

The usher was quite insistent that I take a Part 2 badge to match my other one!

Don't worry about not getting a badge they hand them out at all the exits. There were people at the doors of the circle and then on each door in the foyer.
In terms of the cast board it displayed all the names of the children not just the ones that were on. I had to ask and they couldn't find out on the Tuesday. On the Thursday after a few minutes they did get me an answer but it wasn't simple. It would be lovely if they would change that in the future and after part 2 list all the roles of each actor. I have some ideas for who doubled up for what but obviously can't discuss that here!

Great news. Interestingly, Sonia Friedman Productions had plans to do a whole load of things down Charring Cross road and to the Phoenix to make it like a wedding party leading to the theatre for Bend it Like Beckham but never got their act together to get planning permission in time for press night so never bothered in the end.

I would love more theatres to do this sort of thing! Creating their theatres to fit the show - great idea!!
Anyone else think of any other theatres that could currently do this?
