This was sensational. I missed it at Southwark and very nearly missed this engagement as well.
Utterly wonderful. Cast uniformly fantastic. Beautiful set. Stunning lighting. This puts everything else I've seen at Southwark to shame!

Have my mother coming up on Tuesday and have the afternoon off so have booked the matinee and not telling her what show we are seeing (not even sure she knows this is on and there is a musical about Titanic' but I really think it's going to be a real treat for me mam!!

That was absolutely beautiful, just stunning. I loved it's such an ensemble piece, with a simple set but so effective. I'm in awe, I have seen so many shows I feel flawed, what a beautiful score and I had tears rolling down my face pretty much all through Act 2!!! Oh and the theatre was very close to full, word is out!! We were row E 1,2,3 and was perfect seating!!! Wow, why can't this go to The Phoneix!!! It's a sensational show. I was a complete mess by the end. My face looked like I'd been bobbing around in the Atlantic myself to be honest. Not attractive in the slightest. |

I had tears streaming down my face throughout Act 2 - the last time that happened was the live cinema recording of 'Billy Elliot'!

What about Regents Park Open Air next year! Might not be too effective on a summers evening, but wet and windy would work. Why cancel if it rains - actors slipping over and lights exploding would add a certain something. They could follow through in the bar with themed drinks, ice slushys.
Apologies to anyone who thinks I'm being insensitive. So looking forward to this on Saturday evening.

Despite being almost sold out for most performances this week, there are LOTS of tickets available for next week, including some discounts on decent seats on TodayTix. |

Dont believe all you read about discount seats on Today Tix. I booked that offer and despite them telling me i had save money on my tickets, none of it was true.
Make sure you're in the premium seats to ensure you get the offer

Mine was the seats that would normally be £29.50, down to £22, rather than the 'offer' they keep promoting of £39.50 down to £29.50, which, as you say, are nothing of the sort.

What a wonderful piece. Wonderful. I loved it in at Southwark, thought the staging there was better, but the ensemble harmonies, oh, I'm so impressed. Wonderful.

Just wow...took my mother to the matinee today (afternoon off) and it flawed even more than last week!!
Let's just say I had tears from Act 1...wow what a full matinee (this being a extra one they put in for the last week) really surprising mixed audience and close to full - standing ovation immediately at the end...if ever I have wanted to see a show transfer with this cast then this is the one...it's a stunning piece, wonderfully staged, beautiful score and the cast all work their socks and hearts off playing multiple roles....I would adore a cast recording with this talented cast!!
Oh at the end I was practallty stage door(ing) by error whilst waiting for mother to come back from the loo, I was standing by the door they all need to come out of!! When we come up there was a big crowd all waiting for Niall...was quite a mid-week stagey lot in at the performance...if I wasn't in Devon this weekend I would try be there for closing night!!

I was there too, I agree with everything you say. This cast is pretty much perfect and I, too, would love it to transfer and a cast recording.

I was also at today's matinee. Agreed! Superb staging with a spot-on cast. Great voices. The awkward Theatre space really worked (and was worked) for this. The art deco odd balconies felt part of the stage design when house lights were up.
The musical is perhaps necessarily heavy on 'this is who I am' songs in Act 1 as there's really nothing much that can happen on the ship - til it hits the iceberg. But there are so many good ones (and a few a bit facile lyric wise). But, it's a really fine show deserving a transfer.
Just shows its been the naff programming that has lowered the esteem of this venue, not the space itself. Thom Southerland's involvement is a great move.

Totally agree with the recent comments above. I absolutely love this show. Sadly have only managed to see it twice, but took OH the second time last week. He is ultra fussy (i.e., hates almost everything, but comes with me on high days and holidays as he knows I love theatre - just don't mention Mamma Mia ....) but even he loved Titanic!!!! I'm now desperately trying to arrange things to fit in another visit on Saturday - I don't want this show to end.

Was at the stagey matinee too and loved the show just as much second time around. If a show can make me cry like that twice, they are doing something very right.
What I would change is speak-singing odd sentences like "the sea looks calm tonight" etc, it's not consistently done and I'd much prefer wholly spoken dialogue and sung musical numbers. Otherwise it seems mannered and unnecessary.
It's a lovely score on the whole though. Very moving.

I went last night and was surprised about how much I enjoyed it. It took me a few minutes to get into it, but it really grew on me. I particularly liked Barrett and Bride's duet.
I spent my morning at work convincing my colleagues to go see it before it closes, it really is the kind of production that sticks with you.

Hate to say it, but what a producer may (need to) add is some general public 'name recognition' in the cast. Then again, lots of people don't know this is on, so maybe the phenomenon of 'the Titanic' and great pull quotes is enough. But it wouldn't be cheap to run in the West End (though the doubling was very artfully done, and band sounded bigger than they were). Maybe a tour is its next life. It certainly deserves to be seen more widely. |
