I hope this is doing a good selection of theatres and not a very short tour. Always loved the music and was an amazing show at Charing Cross. It's only going out for a few months...some of the venues it's apparently going to are BIG. I'm intrigued to see if/how they upscale from the CX production. daniel Do you know if it's coming to Plymouth?

Southampton would be somewhat appropriate don't you think? Give that the actual Titanic left from there on its maiden voyage.

Southampton would be somewhat appropriate don't you think? Give that the actual Titanic left from there on its maiden voyage. Actually, Southampton had a very strong connection with the Titanic. The vast majority of the crew came from Southampton and t here were famous photographs at the time, of the crowds gathered daily outside the White Star offices in Southampton to see if their relatives names appeared on the updated lists of survivors. Many, many families lost their main breadwinner in the disaster. My elderly dad grew up in Southampton in the decades following, and he always told me that the disaster cast a long shadow in the town. Mind you, I loved the musical personally. Times move on and I wonder how many people who attend in Southampton will know anything about this connection?

youd have to be pretty ignorant to live in Southampton and not know its connections. numerous memorials, museum, pretty regularly mentioned in local press when something titanic based is in the news. Seems to be a strong social media reaction to the show being announced. Its biggest challenge is getting passed the 'this isnt the 1997 movie' idea some people have on first hearing
there are also a lot of events planned in the city to link with the opening of the show

That's interesting.
I only wondered, as I was delivering some retail training to a group of young people in Witney a few years ago. Bearing in mind that Witney's main claims to fame is its famous blanket industry (an industry that dominated the town for hundreds of years in fact) I casually mentioned the blankets to them during a coffee break. Several of them looked blankly at me. I even asked them if they had grown up and gone to school locally and they all said yes. So I no longer take anything like this for granted...

I'm not sure about Plymouth sorry @trekkiemonster.
I'm actually debating trekking down to Southampton for this - the late night performance is intriguing me!
Also noticed that the Balcony isn't currently on sale, so they're obviously not expecting a mahoosive take up.

Rather off-topic but as Southampton is being discussed: I've just been to see Showstopper in Salisbury. It was set in Salisbury A & E & from the audience reaction when Southampton A & E was mentioned it seems there's some rivalry/enmity between the 2 cities. Can any natives enlighten me?

The big rivalry is Southampton/Portsmouth (the football clubs in particular get very into it) but that's from a Southampton perspective - maybe the Salisbury folk think they have a big thing with us that we aren't aware of 😂

The balcony is closed for the majority of shows. its only ever on sale for the big touring musicals (the likes of wicked, lion king etc) or if demand is there to warrant opening it
Ive never heard of a Salisbury/Southampton rivalry

Yes, it's now one of my all time favourites....Seen at Charing Cross & Arts Educational school. It's totally worth a 3 hour trip, we have talked about making a day/night of it, get a hotel. It's such a beautiful musical.

Don't forget that this was not a 'Charing Cross Theatre' production. What we saw at Charing Cross was a third revival of the Southwark Playhouse production from 2013 - it had already transferred to Japan and Canada before it was revived at Charing Cross, in 2000+ seat theatres, to great acclaim. Bigger set and bigger cast, but the same production.
So basically, there's no need to worry if and how it will work on bigger scale.
Have a look - Toronto footage from Princess of Wales which is about the size of the London Palladium:

As a Southampton girl I can confirm that the long, long rivalry is with Portsmouth not Salisbury. Though maybe if the comments were something to do with Salisbury and Southampton A & E departments, maybe that was specifically made in reference to those? As far as the Titanic is concerned, it was said at the time that there wasn't a family in Southampton who didn't either have a relative or knew someone on the ship. '724 - the number of crew members who lived in Southampton.
Out of the 1,517 victims, Southampton was home to 538 crew members who died on the White Star liner’s fateful crossing to New York.
At the time, Southampton’s population was 100,000 and one in every four homes lost a family member. Northam, a suburb on the banks of the River Itchen, was worst hit. In one Southampton school- Northam - around half of the pupils were left fatherless.'So, there are still plenty of Titanic descendents living in Southampton, or elsewhere but who know about it and the 100th anniversary five years ago meant there was a lot of renewed interest in Titanic in Southampton and elsewhere. www.mayflower.org.uk/Whats_On/Titanic2018

I think I may have now tracked it down. From Salisbury Hospital's Wikipedia page: "The hospital is currently investing in the building of a new Cardiac Investigation Unit for the treatment of emergency and non-emergency cardiac conditions, which will prevent the majority of cardiac emergencies needing to be transported to Southampton General Hospital after initial treatment in Salisbury." So presumably the Salisbury patients resent being currently booted off to Southampton!

I've booked in for The Lowry I think the rest of the tour dates will be drip-fed, given that we've had two venues announced now, and no full tour announcement!
