Watched the matinee today in Sunderland.
Brenda is, as expected, wonderful.
As for the rest of it? It is like a semi-staged production. The band take up almost the entire stage so there is not much room for much else, certainly no big numbers. No real set. The cast sat on chairs down the side. This seems like such a wasted opportunity!
The cast were all talented enough but I left the theatre feeling quite underwhelmed by it all.

Or know what the (famous) staging is like? Wow.

This show was revived at a time as the big blockbuster musicals were beginning to wane. It was a breath of fresh air. For new audiences it definitely doesn’t have that impact now so I understand what you mean. I hope they retire this revival soon it’s nearly 30 years on the go.

I can see how someone wouldn't have seen Chicago. For the last 20 years it's pretty much been stunt cast after stunt cast. It's a show I'd like to see again but there's always at least one person in it I'm not paying to see/won't be up to the job. I think its reputation has been cheapend. Think it's been 10 to 15 years since I last saw it now.

When I saw it in Manchester a few weeks ago, I would have guessed there were quite a few people there who hadn't seen it before, judging by the number of those still surprised by the Mary Sunshine reveal.

I've never seen it! I will be soon but it's just never appealed to me, and the constant stunt casting hasn't helped with that.

Brenda is an incredible woman, she's just at home on the stage as she is on Loose Women.

Might be a dumb question
I’m American. I love this show. I’ve seen it over 100xs
Does a UK tour this late still hold up to the grit and What the show is? US tours haven’t.

No I have never seen it before! Er okay. I've never seen Chicago before. Have no idea about the staging. Didn't realise not having seen certain shows yet was something to be ashamed of.

Went to see this at Oxford. This show is in great shape…thank God, GC pulled out! (what was that all about…?!) Good fun evening. Went with a friend and our 15 yro daughters…all loved it. Proper talent on stage. Special mentions to Lee Mead and Faye Brooke’s, who both really sold their parts…but the ensemble were on top form!

Can't get an image to post, but if you google "Chicago UK Tour 2024" the preview of the offical site on the google result has: UK Tour; MILTON KEYNES. MILTON KEYNES THEATRE. Sat 12 – Sat 19 October 2024 · 00:00 am Tue 20 February 2024 ; BRADFORD. ALHAMBRA THEATRE. Mon 21 – Sat 26 October ...Opening the site though just has a 404 error

I guess it’ll give Amber Davies something to do once ‘Dancing on Ice’ finishes.

I saw it last year on broadway with no stunt casting and it's such a great show when its performed well. It's such a shame it's never done in the UK now without celebs.
