I just think there are people who expect a completely different style of show. I'd struggle to call it light-hearted. In fact there’s only one song with any jokes (She’d Be Far Better Off With You). "You don't cheat at croquet" always killed me |

I would respect a negative opinion if it was well reasoned and fair or simply stating "sorry this wasn't for me". The hyperbolic expressions used here "worst thing I've ever seen on a west end stage", "15 people complaining","audience laughing how bad it is" just sounds like trolling and ALW-bashing and I can't take it seriously. Completely agree. “15 people complaining.” Do me a favour. I’ve been going to the theatre for 37 odd years and have never heard more than 2 or 3 people complaining in the interval. Totally agree. That statement is absolute rubbish. |

I counted at least 15 people complaining in the interval to staff about how bad it was and they wanted there money back.  Really? Has anyone ever seen that happen?? You pay your money, you take your chances.
To anyone who's actually seen the show, does the switch to older Jenny happen behind a rock, like she has done in most other productions? Is that stage direction written into the script??

I went last night and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I saw the original many years ago and felt this was much better. It is a shame the story is so poor but the orchestration was good as were the actors. It was well staged. I didn’t see anyone complain or leave (if anyone did it could be due to the terribly uncomfortable seats). Definitely worth going to see in my opinion. Hi, I too saw it last night and had the totally opposite opinion. Aspects was my first true theatre love and I’ve held on to the memory ever since. I saw it at the Southwark playhouse a couple of years ago and fell in love all over again. The production in a very small setting worked perfectly and was beautifully performed. On to last night. Firstly, I have not been in the Lyric DC before and can say without a shadow of a doubt it’s the worst DC for visibility I have been to and I’ve done virtually every one in WE ha! We were in row E which should, in any theatre give a fantastic view at £90 seat. We complained and the manager, and after sitting in the seats, he agreed with us. They moved us to row C but with the dreadful rake it wasn’t much better. It’s all good people posting on seat plan the view if they are doing before the auditorium is full. Onto the show itself. The performances were all incredible with Michael Ball portraying George with just the right amount of “everything” perfectly. Jamie Boygo again was superb as were the leading ladies……but…….the staging!!! The crudely painted (deliberate) back drops did nothing to create the illusion of being in a French Provence. Worse than this were the ridiculous sliding panels which travelled across the stage to allow for set changes. videos projections were screened onto them of random flowers, the river of Venice, the moon! Just so out of keeping with the ambience it was supposed to be portraying. The setting totally ruined the whole performance in our opinion. If you have never seen the show the set may not annoy you as much as it did us so go with an open mind. |

A child actress, well I guess about 16 in real life plays Jenny for a short period and then an older version continues. The lyrics change in one song which goes something like “ you were 18, like me, when you met my mother” don’t quote me but it was def changed to make the age clear.

The whole show is REALLY weird. I assume it was played for laughs, because no way is that a serious plot

Looks like rake and width of the stage could be an issue in the side stalls? |

This isn't a problem as long as a basketball team doesn't sit in front of you, but it's pot luck. Your eyes are at stage height, and four rows back, that is very comfortable and a very good view if the three people in front of you aren't too tall. I lucked out with some small ladies in front of me. Row E, I believe, is more expensive because it is raked a little higher. |

I just spent 62 quid on a row J seat, bang in middle for £62 for Monday night... hadn't appreciated on Tix, how annoying! Does anyone know if MB in on Monday night, not that I am hugely bothered either way.... |

ta- that presumably means I will get to see Mr. Ball! I'm super excited to see this, always loved the score (like many others on here!), just home it isn't cheesy... I have only seen it once, a poor production in Canterbury with David Essex. It didn't work at all. Hoping for better things this time around. |

Thought the show was glorious last night and very much enjoyed it.
I have never seen the original production but have seen it at The Menier and Southwark Playhouse (the latter I did not like).
The staging was so nice, and I especially liked the screens with projections that came across the stage to change each scene. Good use of revolve as well. The whole thing looked beautiful.
The cast were excellent. Michael Ball was perfect at George (he really does have a great voice), Laura Pitt-Pulford was superb and also Anna Unwin who plays Jenny. I have not seen Moulin Rouge but heard all the negative comments about Jamie Bogyo, all I can say is that this musical is perfect for him and he really does have a beautiful voice.
So nice to hear the music played by a pretty big orchestra who you get to see a couple of times during the show.
In pretty good shape for a preview and I only noticed a couple of mistakes. A prop fell on the revolve and Jamie put his shirt on inside out once which was no bad thing as it meant he couldnt button it up and so we got an extended view of his chest. Producers might want to consider keeping this in.
Ive given it 5 stars but if there was a 4.5 I would have gone for that as the seats were really uncomfortable so I wasnt completely relaxed towards the end.
Seating wise I was sat at the end of Row F in the stalls, great view but I noticed that the rows in front did not have much of a rake, if at all, so worth thinking about if booking for the stalls. The stage looked very high and most peoples heads seemed to be at eye level or below to the stage.
