Same here when I saw JOJ was the lead and noticed the date. Quite a cast then. Me too, nearly commented surely not! That is a cast and a half for this.

I hadn't noticed the thread on here so thought the whole thing was an April fool!

There's a song from it on EPOS now.
Unfortunately my washing machine is spinning off, so I can't hear it that well! It sounds quite fun though.

Apparently Rebecca Lock has been involved in the workshop process of this and says that it is really strong. It is promising when actors think the material is good so it should give us some hope. Literally every actor in every workshop thinks the show they are working on is great. They just want the work.

Heard it earlier and whilst I thought the performers were pretty good, the problem for me lay in the lyrics mainly. Nothing progressive and felt a bit dated and just wasn't for me despite quite liking the bake off everytime it comes around. I'm sure it'll do well though as it should be able to find an audience easily.

This seems to me to basically be a cynical cash grab exercise on behalf of the producer and the TV company that produce Bake Off. Having now heard a track from the show, which resembled a deeply sub-par version of the songs Victoria Wood used to perform at the end of her TV show back in the early eighties, it’ll be interesting to see if Bake Off fans will translate to bums on seats for this dated twee-fest.

Why does every musical need to be 'progressive'? Especially Bake off of all shows.
I think if they get this right it's actually quite a fun idea for a show. Bake off is always full of a range of characters with different backgrounds so that would suit a musical. Similar to something like Jerry Springer the opera. It's one of those ideas so crazy it may just work.
The song they've released so far is enjoyable.

They don't all need to be progressive at all, but this felt like it wasn't adding anything to the table at all in any shape or form. I agree Jerry Springer the opera worked really surprisingly well but that was down to the quality of the production and the talent of the cast. Based on that song this isn't even close. Sorry, I know it's all subjective and I'm fully prepared to eat my words when the full album comes out.

Just saw a preview on BBC, looks like fun. A quick check of the website shows it's selling pretty well. Shame it's just a two week run - I would have thought with the cast they have assembled they would have done another venue.

Interesting article and the sets look good. I think this show would do better on tour rather than going into the West End. I’d buy a ticket! Bake Off should be starting the new series on Channel 4 in the next few weeks or so, a decent time for them to announce what’s next for the musical while it’s on TV.

I fear its another Acorn Antiques rip off. People are too ready to assume that what worked for one fantastically realised ‘pastiche’ will work for everything. It will need really great songs if its not going to drag past its first three numbers, and be razor sharp clever, witty and with enough jokes to push it past being a 5 minute stand up routine stretched out over 2 hours. We already had the really enjoyable ‘Bakewell Bake Off’. I wish that had been given the opportunities that this has had.

Jesus it looks shocking.
So cheap.
Poor Rosie Ashe. She deserves better than this.

Anyone else seen this at the Everyman? We did an overnighter from Kent to Cheltenham (via the equally-excellent Billy Elliot at Leicester!) last week and really enjoyed it. I don't watch the TV programme very often but as a comedy musical it does the job well. Many funny moments, catchy songs from a top notch cast, touching back stories of the 8 baker contestants and an unexpected ending.
The focus is on the contestants and their lives and backgrounds, not so much on the actual baking, but my partner who does watch the show said the set looks just as on TV and she picked up on several of the key incidents featured in the TV series. There are some very catchy songs. ("I'd never be me without you" is a real earworm and can be seen and heard - in part- officially on You Tube). I particularly enjoyed seeing John Owen-Jones in a comedy role and with Rosemary Ashe they capture the look and style of Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith perfectly, but all the cast shine including the two presenters and a talented young lady in the role of a widowed contestant's daughter
If only Cheltenham wasn't so far away we'd go back this week. I think this could do really well in the West End and/or on tour and I'll be there wherever it goes next

Saw this yesterday and thought it was really great! The music in particular is fantastic. What’s more is it’s genuinely funny, but also very touching at times. I loved the characters - they all seemed so familiar to those who’ve been on the programme. "I'd never be me without you" a particular standout - very much reminded me of “You’re timeless to me”
And the cast! Wow. If you’re gonna do a two week production and star the best of the West End then this is how to do it. Everyone was perfect.
If you liked shows like The Girls and The Band, then you’ll love this! I have no doubt this will be back again.

Had a fabulous time at the matinee today. It’s genuinely laugh out loud funny and balances it well with some really lovely sentimental moments. There’s a song which I think was called “Grow” which nearly had me crying.
Great performances by the whole cast with everybody getting their moments to shine. This has to have a life beyond Cheltenham.

Timings would fit nicely between Best of Enemies and Patriots.
