What is Vanessa Fishers belt like; specifically in the remix? I didn't think she was gonna go for that last note until the very end - she certainly doesn't hang around on the A flat for very long! Makes you wistful for a Caroline Kieff or Siobhan Dillon to belt their faces off like in the olden days 😂 Or are they reinventing that aswell?

I guess this is why we don't usually book from the States for our visit to London. But this year we did, and we have tickets to the closing performance and, well, these comments are only filling me with dread for our final London show.

We’ve had discussions on this board before where we’ve pondered: is it really the same show of songs have to be lowered to accommodate voices who have been cast for a variety of reasons. If this was not the composer’s intention to have the song lower at what point is the integrity of the piece compromised? Ie: why not just get someone who can sing it as written?

Run time as advertised is Act 1: 65 mins. Intermission: 20 mins Act 2: 55 mins.
I’ve already seen Jay Perry and think I saw Jamael Westman.
They’ve only just opened the doors to be seated.

I think it depends on the role personally. Angela Lansbury's keys were lowered in Gypsy I think? And that worked fine. However if a great soprano role, for example, had its keys lowered for a performer I'd find it disappointing. I think far more has changed the intentions of the original script in this production than just the vocals.

£15 front row seats are amazing value. The stage is high but there is a decent gap so you can see everything without straining your neck.
I went it to having only known a few songs but never actually seen the musical. I really enjoyed it. I thought the songs were really great and the book was funny. I would give it 4/5. The cast are incredibly talented. Courtney, Lauren (the skipping!) and Billy Nevers we’re standouts for me.
I’d agree with what others have said already. The costumes and set design are really bad. I’d say they drag down my overall rating to a 3/5.
I’d already had a ticket for July booked but I think I will have to go again at some point in between.

Well this was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be based on comments on here.
Huge fan of the original production, and I think they’ve done a pretty decent job here. It’s definitely not a perfect production by any means but it was still a really fun evening out in a beautiful setting. The cast were all excellent, all of the modernisations worked for me, and the dogs were actually hilarious.
That curtain has to go though - it looks like a huge dirty moustache and the cast were constantly getting tangled in it and even having bits of it ripped off and draped around them which was quite distracting.

They replied to my message on Instagram saying: “ Hi, I'm afraid that was a one off offer but please keep an eye on our social media channels for future offers. Best wishes, The Open Air Theatre Team” so strange that they ended up doing the front row £15 seats tonight. Hopefully they’ve got it wrong and I can pick one up on Thursday.

Another one in the really enjoyed it camp here.
I went in completely blind not knowing anything about it but thought it had some really good songs, a nice storyline, good bit of dancing and some funny dogs, all the ingredients in making a good show.
I was sitting quite a way back and the set didn't look too bad and does look a lot better once the sun goes down and the lights shine bright.
Think the sound was a bit off and needs a bit of tightening up but hopefully should be sorted during previews.
Solid enjoyable 4/5

Have they updated gay or European at all?

Yay, good to hear it's not as bad as I feared.
Personally I would give up good staging and costumes rather than something else being lacking.

That’s a shame if the case, I had planned to try for £15 front row today, this is the exact show you would expect to have a front row deal this at every performance, it hooks in the fandom crowd (they will seat in other seats but likely to go see more often) & gets in the curious crowd! I want to see but not sure I want to part with £60 to go see especially seeing it’s sounding to not quite be of the same quality of the production we got at the Savoy in its original London run.

Have they updated gay or European at all? Not anything that I can remember! If they did change anything it was very subtle

Yay, good to hear it's not as bad as I feared. Personally I would give up good staging and costumes rather than something else being lacking. But we shouldn't have to sacrifice something - when the top price tickets for this are £65, you should be getting a really good quality production, and I don't feel you are here. I've seen better costumes and sets in shows at Southwark Playhouse, where they've got a budget of 6 rolls of wrapping paper and a glue stick!

But is that really where we are? If we bought the cheapest ticket of a price range that goes from £15-£65 we won't be bothered if the production itself is shoddy and cheap?
God that's depressing

I don't mind cheap staging or costumes for a show like Legally Blonde, no. Other shows, for sure.

I feel like going forward Legally Blonde productions will lean further and further into the camp factor of the piece. The recent UK tour seemed to dial up the camp and this production seems to go one step further. I don’t think we’ll see a “realistic” version ala the original again.
And personally, I’m okay with that. The show is high camp.
