I remember a young Gabriel Vick playing Henrich at the Menier in Night Music then didn't really hear of him again until he directed Miss Atomic Bomb at The Other Palace (which I loved).

I last saw him on stage in the tour of Little Miss Sunshine which I enjoyed.

Henrik. When it transferred to The Garrick he went with it. Gabriel Vick was also in Once and The Kinks Musical. Also (ever so briefly) in the Les Miserable film. Married to Kerry Howard. |

It is so so different from taking a much adapted fairy tale and turning that into a musical even though many others have already done that. And did a better job. |

I saw the Mrs. Doubtfire 3 times and enjoyed it more each time. The last time it was with new children and Mark Evan's was out and the show worked brilliantly. It's a story about a father's love for his children. It's about the definition of family. It also has a terrific role for a lead male identifying actor. The show has an all new musical score. Although some of the score is not traditional. An actor or theatre professional may appreciate more than the general public. I think, like Legally Blonde, it was not welcome on Broadway which means it will be nominated for buckets of Oliviers and could win a few. |

Legally blonde ran a year on broadway and was Tony nominated. Yes it underperformed and had mixed reviews but I think it was also over-produced on broadway and was in too big a theatre. The UK production was smaller, cheaper to run and in a more reasonably sized theatre. Mrs doubtfire didn't even get close to legally blondes run and had arguably worse word of mouth. |

Tom Scanlon- Kinky Boots, Heathers, Dirty Dancing unsure which role I think he could play in doubtfire maybe ensemble and understudy stu?
Cameron Blakely- Addams Family,Les Mis, Oliver. Who I think will play Frank Hillard. Possibly Daniel/doubtfire but if Gabriel Vicks is doing it then he will be Frank. Or Mr Jolly?
Vanessa Fisher- Legally Blonde, Joseph& Bring it on. Who I think is Wanda Seller

Not true. Some jukebox musicals have shown great creativity in building a new fun plot around the songs - from Mamma Mia onwards to recent shows like &Juliet. Not everything is a tedious biography musical box-ticking career stations and biggest hits of the performer in question, which often feels more like a glorified tribut act. The same can be said for screen-to-stage-adaptations. Some have shown great creativity by using the movie as a basis from which to give the stage version a new direction and/or adding new angles, others simply slap the movie 1:1 on stage with some forgettable bland songs thrown at it - two of the most blatant cash grabs IMHO were Pretty Woman and Rock that really felt done by numbers and adding NOTHING new. Judging solely from the cast recording, Mrs Doubtfire seems to fall into the latter category, I found the album so bland, I didn't even finish listening to it. That said, I do think every new show should be given a chance and not dismissed out of hand. I unexpectedly really loved Beetlejuice for example and even more unexpectedly fell in love with &Juliet, despite hating 90s/early 00s pop with a passion normally. |

Mamma Mia! does seem to be the trailblazer in terms of jukebox musicals but what is so clever about this show is that, whilst this brings pure fun and joy, this does set the benchmark very high. The songs themselves have had minimial (if any changes) to them and the order they are arranged in, do also move the story forward.
Because at the time Benny & Bjorn allowed the creative team full access to the whole ABBA back-catalogue little unearthed gems, such as Slipping Through My Fingers (which, to the nest of my knowledge was never released as a single) were used to remarkable effect and, just work!
Same with Adante! Adante! in the second film.

Frozen was widely derided when it was on Broadway but given that most people now seem to think it’s the cats whiskers there’s nothing to say that Mrs D won’t be changed for it’s U.K. run. I mean, why wouldn’t they try to rectify any problems?
Also, am I detecting a bit of the old “it’s not opening in London so it must be rubbish” attitude we’ve seen so often in the past?
