Anyone else seen this? The play/production seems immensely pleased with itself, in a finger-wagging "You lazy Westerners should know about this" sort of way, but it's been a long time since I cared less about two characters on a stage. (And I saw Last Easter at the same theatre!) The production doesn't help - very in your face, but frequently confusing and hard to follow. Lots of baffling doubling of roles, and lots of Cast Narrating The Plot, telling the audience what to think. Quite a few shut eyes and gently nodding heads in the audience. A VERY long hundred plus minutes, in return for really not much...

Bang on: I HATED it, am sure I nodded off at some points and was desperate to leave. And this was the only production from the new season which remotely appealed to me, whereas in the old days (when Sam Wlaters was the AD), it was rare for me to miss one.

I had much entertainment from counting the number of people who fell asleep (5 at one point!) and the theatre was neither warm or stuffy.
The absolute highlight of the evening was as we left. An elderly lady walking out just in front of us suggested that she thought the commissioning director was the one that should have, link the CEO in the play, had a bag of rotten food thrown at them for selecting to put that on.
I laughed so much.

In fairness to the cast of two, I should say they worked astonishingly hard. Just a shame it was also such hard work sitting through this and I hadn't a clue what was going on.

Just programme for the local audience - that means putting a Feydeau farce on every Xmas like they used to. |

I would imagine half the audience were even more befuddled when they worked out it wasn't Tim Rice on stage ..

Well it was very brave of you to go, tmesis , in view of some of the comments above! Yes I was going to duck out of this and now wish I had - but I have a strange loyalty and affection for OT but they're going through a bad patch - Last Easter was execrable also. |

I saw this play on the Friday night. That was a long 90+ minutes. The story was hard to follow. Not very good.
