I liked it! Yeah, it needs some culling but the songs were good, the cast were FABULOUS and thoroughly deserved their ovation. Box office had an hours' queue at 7pm so it was very late starting - and finishing but I had a great time.

I left in the interval, partly due to the 45 minute late start.
The half I saw was well-performed by a committed,talented cast. The general feeling was energetic with a couple of decent songs amongst an average score.
The generally young audience responded enthusiastically.
As an older punter who paid for his ticket I felt it showed some promise but is nothing overwhelming.

I think it works for the older audience too - as they will understand its references even better.It got a very strong positive reaction - complete standing ovation at the end. its got more big songs than most recent successes, and a script thats effectively witty. I think Westend wilma had it right. Act two suffered without some costumes and special effects - the threat isn't very convincing when he just walks on and points a gun - but thats easily solvable. A bit of tightening and it should be fine. Casting did a great job. Louis Maskel remains striking - as he was alongside Katie Hall (who I am missing seeing) in West Side Story. Samuel Holmes threw in some great character acting and comedy , and has a great voice - as we saw in Mrs Henderson . And Amy Lennox got to show off her talent in a leading role that gave her comedy, a character, and a string of varied, numbers to play with . She's must see material. And Summer Strallen got to channel her inner Xena too... The Palladium did less well - long queue with no indication whether it was for collecting or everyone, and an undermanned bar leading to more delays. |

NYC gets new writing like Hamikton, Waitress and Dear Evan Hansen..!and we get this and 'Exposure the musical'.

Heard good things from the Palladium concert, so I'm booked in for the last preview. £10 for the end of row C - a bargain even if it's a side view. You can listen to a 'preview' of the cast recording here: www.smarturl.it/eugenius01I quite like the sound of it - on the website it says that the music is "Ben Adams’ homage to all the great sounds of the ‘80s" but I think it's also got a late '00s/early '10s pop feel to it. (I'm also really hoping that Amy Lennox signs on to the run at The Other Palace because she was brilliant in Kinky Boots and sounds amazing in these songs) |

The first performance is 22nd January. I'm in London the weekend before this starts and the weekend after it finishes. There goes my budgeting for a London-free February! Booked a Saturday matinee.

I love it when producers put audio clips from a new musical up online before tickets go onsale. Sometimes it saves me the cost of a ticket.

I saw the first half of the Palladium concert. Not for me. The future of British musicals, this is not.
Glad The Other Palace are supporting new work in the main space though!

I'm sure they said the same about the show where Darren Day played a singing rat that started the fire of London. Michael Xavier as a pirate was the only thing that got me through that performance!
