Presale tickets went up on TodayTix today.
Picked up a couple of £8 tickets to Merchant of Venice and Hamlet. Merchant is my favourite Shakespeare play, but I've yet to see a good production of it, so if it's good I'll probably buy better tickets at a later date.
I'm not anticipating being able to see anything from the £8 seats...!

Where on earth are £8 seats, on the roof?! it's quite a small theatre. Only stalls and a gallery. The gallery only has 4 rows and the £8 seats are the back two rows on either side of the theatre. Although they're advertised as seats, I believe they're actually standing? I've never been there. But it looks quite intimate. |

In a theatre totally full of appallingly bad and uncomfortable seats they are the worst of the lot. That's quite a trick they've pulled there, very high prices for awful seats on the spurious basis that they are somehow "authentic". |

That's quite a trick they've pulled there, very high prices for awful seats on the spurious basic that they are somehow "authentic". We should have a thread on the worst theatres. I was once in a temporary theatre NT put up in Bernie Spain Garden which was worse partly because it was also freezing cold. Jermyn Street used to be terrible too, bare wooden church pews, but is now delightful. |

Oh I'm well aware that you end up sat on your neighbours and twisted in some weird position that spines were not designed for. Could be rather than pre booking interval drinks pre book a physio appointment.

Just been advised that the cheap (£8) seats are no longer in fact seats but are standing and all Today Tix have suggested is paying the difference to £30 for a seat!
Waiting to hear further from their customer service now.

Have I missed the cast announcements for any of these? I can't see anything on the Globe's website. They tweeted on 11th that rehearsals had started for Measure for Measure, but I don't think there's been any info since on who is rehearsing. I'm interested in seeing M for M, and not expecting any big names, but I just want to know who the leads are before paying for a ticket.
I don't understand the rationale behind delayed cast announcements, not just here but at any theatres. I get that they want to make sure they have contracts signed first, but otherwise why keep the actors' identities a secret, particularly when they're already rehearsing?

The novelty wore off for me a while ago. The part of ‘original’ they didn't seem to understand was the size of the general population. I suppose the arty folk of yore could happily sit in such an auditorium but sadly I cannot. I loved the candle lit stuff and the standard of productions was usually very good, but I won’t be going there again.

The cost of attending the first indoor theatres was around 6d (old pence). Accounting for inflation that is around £8 today. So they are charging 10x as much. So the seats should be 10x more comfortable. |
