I actually liked the set, it looked impressive all opened up and they did well creating different locations through wheeling different furniture and props in and out. Definitely far from ugly.

I agree, having seen NY & 2 London productions, the set was quite impressive and worked well. I preferred this production to the Meniere's and really enjoyed David Thaxtons performance.

Finally managed to get my 2022 theatre year going with a trip to Sheffield for a belated viewing of SLM this afternoon. A really charming show with a set that looked really good once it opened up and making fully use of the crucible stage and revolve. A really great cast assembled with Alex Young and David Thaxton working really well as Nowack and Balash with plenty of humour and chemistry between them as their romance played out on stage. As a score, it was very nice to listen and songs allowing everyone to shine with their own numbers. Having got a £22 side seat, it was great value and missed nothing. Certainly the design the auditorium provides good views from all sides so you can great seats here without breaking the bank. As for a rating, I’d certainly go with the critics and award 4⭐️ for this production.
