Well, all I can say so far is that this is not nearly as entertaining and bizarre as Emma Rices production
But it is certainly the better Shakespeare production, and it has been leaving me with a smile on my face
Also whilst Emma Rice flings dozens of ideas into her production, this gives modest helpings that leaves me curious to see more
And I am loving Lucy Ellinson's 'Emcee' Puck. Especially since she doesn't resort to SHOUTING. The Barbican Tower company are doing a good job as the mechanicals
The first act is very long though. It finishes right after Puck sends the four lovers to sleep and amends all wrongs

Seeing this at the end of June in Stratford and I must say after watching the BBC documentary "The Best Bottoms in the Land" I am looking forward to this very much indeed!

So we're in the last week of this in Stratford, and I'm trying to decide if I should treat myself to a last minute ticket or just resign myself to missing it. What do you all reckon?

It's nothing special and certainly not worth the prices they charge in RST. I saw it for £10 (day seats) at the Barbican - centre stalls seats - which was a good deal. |

I would disagree - a very enjoyable performance, the lovers and Puck played to perfection and fine support from the rude mechanicals (a Cornish theatre group when we saw it)

The amateur mechanicals were good (Tower Theatre Company) but the Bottom/Titania scene was very limp, caused by them rehearsing entirely separately for most of the time - Mikey Billington made this point too. |

Well, we're agreed it is enjoyable. I thought it was special and worth the money (we were in the front row), but value for money is a very subjective issue

Well it's a fairly quick nip up the M40 for me so maybe I'll see what they've got in the way of cheap tickets. Both sides of the argument make it sound respectable enough.  |
