But once again, why haven't the producers made an official statement about Buckley's absence? It's gone beyond a joke at this stage - she's been out too long for them not to address it.

Hoping Buckley is back for Monday evening, but either actor covering Sally has received sparkling notices. Will be slightly disappointed, but that’s the gamble with live theatre. Emily was absolutely amazing, she gave such an emotional performance, just wonderful. Was Jesse back yesterday, I saw on Twitter earlier someone say they saw her, but it could be they didn't recognise who it really was.

I think she was back yesterday as there was no announcement from that Twitter account for yesterday, and back today evening as well since Sally Frith is covering Kost now.

Jessie was on last night unless the cast board was wrong and her cover plays it identically. (I’m not that good at actually recognising people). She made a couple mistakes. Minor but noticeable. I felt maybe she’d come back before she was ready?

Oh cool, that makes sense. I wish thry would use their twitter account or something to let people know who they should be expecting to see.

Why on earth would they need to make a statement? Most people aren't such avid followers of theatre that they'll even know she's been off, let alone care. They are probably taking it day by day and can't say if she'll be on or not until the day, which is entirely fair.

We're going round in circles on this thread in which no one's opinion is going to change.
(I'm with @posterj for what it's worth)

Big interview with Nicola C in the Observer today but no mention of her doing this, one would assume if she was indeed doing it that they would have coincided the announcement.

Fra Fee & Billie Piper for £250? Christ Now THAT might be worth £250 but I’d be wanting a guarantee that he was turning up.

Now THAT might be worth £250 but I’d be wanting a guarantee that he was turning up. Theatreboard reacts: "Let's be honest he's a big name but he can't really sing" "Is he that big? Has the average patron heard of him? I'm not sure if I have and I'm a big follower of these things" "I prefer a younger MC" "Doesn't stage door, quite stroppy on twitter, I don't like actors with God-complexes" "Nowhere near as good as Cumming, in fact why couldn't they just reincarnate the Mendes production" "If the messiahs name is above the title then I'd expect a full refund if he should be off, I can't believe there's not agreement on this issue on Theatre Board despite thousands of posts over the past decade discussing it"

I literally hadn't heard of Fra Fee, and I follow and work in theatre. Not exactly inspiring. Oh, do you work in theatre? You've kept that one quiet. For what it's worth, I don't work in theatre, and I have heard of him.

Interesting (I think) point about the evolution of the Emcee: I worked with Joe Masteroff on a program related to Cabaret. He talked about the evolution of the Emcee character, originally a supporting role, which was why Joel Gray won the Featured Actor Tony Award (Jack Gilford, as Herr Schultz, won nominated for Best Leading Actor). Boris Aronson designed the sets for the original production. They were big, complicated sets. Masteroff said that it took time for them to get into place between scenes, so it was decided that, during those scene-changes, they should "Let Joel do something." So the role grew during that period. But the original billing hung on for that production, as the cast album cover shows: m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61S0pfYtMuL._SX522_.jpg

Anyone who has seen the film version of Les Mis might also recognise him. Yes, I welcome this casting. I wouldn't pay the prices they're charging to see him in it (although nor Eddie Redmayne), but Fra Fee is a bona fide musical theatre actor, who has also had success in plays in London and Broadway, and film and TV. People here are the first to criticise stunt casting with names, so it's odd to say casting is not inspiring when they go for someone who has earned the role.

Also in the latest version of Cinderella and a Disney+ series called Hawkeye (which I haven't seen) He was also in The Ferryman at the Royal Court and Gielgud for which he won the 2018 What's On Stage Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play and then went to Broadway with it. And Candide at the Menier for which he was rather good.

He also did a mediocre Romeo and Juliet some years ago but he did most of the first act with his shirt off so at least that was something.
