How much are the new leads going to be asked to stick the originals' characterizations / performance choices, or is that not going to be the case? It's impossible to know. The production is tightly put together and I doubt they're gonna change costumes/choreographies for a new cast, although if they're big names they will definitely be allowed more freedom than you're usual West End replacement. It is actually very interesting, because this revival was born as Eddie Redmayne's vanity project and he chose his co-lead and director, so with a new cast member that didn't hire her Rebecca might have a bit more freedom herself and bring the whole thing closer to her vision of the show

She was terrific in Jack Thorne's Junkyard (worth a slightly tortuous trip to Kingston). Have enjoyed watching her star rise since then. And she did a rendition of Meatloaf's 'I Would do Anything For Love' in a shower of packing beans in Wish List that Russell T Davies, sitting behind us, said was the best moment he'd seen in theatre, or something like that. I would love to see her take on, and her 'take' on, Sally Bowles (or the Emcee!).

I was thinking that the rest of the ensemble I doubt are leaving, and with them doing 8 shows a week, I doubt there's enough time in rehearsals for the new people to come in and try out new interpretations.

🤔 Odd they’re only just filming a trailer, especially with a cast change apparently imminent. I have been reliably informed that Eddie’s replacement is an equally big name. The person won’t tell me who, but I suspect “big name” is a bit subjective Interesting - I'd heard that the Sally was a bigger name this time, though that was third hand info a while ago, and no names.

Gosh Erin Doherty would be a STELLAR Sally. Sadly I suggested Andrew Scott in jest with no idea if he can sing but I would absolutely see it if he can He was in watching before Christmas.

Kate Middleton was in last weekend but I don't think that suggests she's going in either haha

I just thought to myself that Rachel Tucker would be good, which led me to thinking who would be even better…that other girl that was on it…the younger one with red hair…it’ll come to me; Jessie Buckley. Doh!

Nadine Dorries watched it a few week back too......
Obviously Andrew Scott would be amazing (much better than Redmayne I think) - but unless it's part he's been wanting to play for ever I can't imagine that he's going to take over a role at this point in his career. He's also filming the Showtime version of Ripley at the moment alongside Johnny Flynn who would also be an amazing MC.
I know there was speculation a long time ago about regular Rebecca Frecknall collaborator Patsy Ferran playing Sally Bowles, and that's something which would be interesting - possibly opposite her co-star from the cancelled Broadway production of Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf - Russell Tovey.
And if not Erin Doherty, how about her 'sister in law' Emma Corrin - who can apparently sing. Josh O'Connor as the Emcee - we can but dream.

Josh is busy with new film projects (one with Guadagnino and the other one with Alice Rohrwacher, plus a previously announced project co-starring Kate Winslet), although he has stated he wanted to do proper theatre (the R&J one ended up as a film).
Emma is headlining a miniseries created by Brit Marling, and rumor is that her show is going to be filmed in Iceland.
Not sure what’s next for Erin. Her current show, Chloe, is currently on iPlayer, and getting great reviews. She’s more of a theatre kid though she hasn’t debuted at the West End or even the National?
I love the idea of Russell Tovey as the Emcee! Though I’ve watched Constellations from Donmar online and I wasn’t exactly enthralled by him, but he works really well with queer-related projects.

I was just doing slight wild - but impractical and unlikely - casting. I think we've more change of seeing Dorries in the show than either Josh O'Connor or Emma Corrin - they are both riding high on the back of numbers awards for The Crown and I suspect have film and TV roles stacked up (that covid backlog is real) and both would want to originate rather than take over roles I'm sure. O'Connor is definitely a theatre animal, I remember seeing him at Stratford, the Donmar and Southwark Playhouse.
He's no name at all - but Patsy Ferran's Camp Siegfried co-star Luke Thallon would make a great Emcee. He was amazing as Bobby Childs in the Guildhall production of Crazy for You - a proper song and dance man - including tapping!
I'm speculating that the relatively late announcement about the replacements is because they are such big names that there will be a huge demand at the box office and another spike of publicity - or, possibly more likely, they are selling as many tickets on the strength of Redmayne/Buckley - as they are worried that sales may fall off post announcement. I guess we'll know soon enough.

They might announce the new cast days after the Olivier nominations would be made public? The eligibility cut off is on 22 February so most likely the nominations will be announced by early March. They’re also riding well with Jessie’s Oscar nomination.
I wish they will perform on the Olivier night, or is that the work of the new cast? Or both?

She was the lead in The Divide at the Old Vic and was in the first run of A Christmas Carol there too, if that counts as West End (similar size, feel and ticket prices!). Chloe is excellent btw.! Patsy Ferran would be an interesting Sally too. I was really hoping they'd stream Camp Siegfried like they did with Faith Healer because I don't live in London and for those of us who have to book very expensive train tickets on top of expensive theatre tickets, with the chance we, or the actors, may be ill, it's still too much of a financial risk right now.

If we're going for dream/unrealistic casting as well as the more likely options, then Anya Taylor-Joy, Florence Pugh or Jodie Comer please, if any of them can sing (though I know the latter isn't available!).

The replacements have already been cast. It's all very hush hush at the moment, but if what I've heard it's true, nothing to be excited about
