Sitting in the front row of the stalls for most shows I attend, I've occasionally been approached for some interaction. Only last night it happened to my partner at Thursford Christmas Spectacular.
If it's from the stage and someone just speaking to me I have no problem, reply and play along. On one occasion I got a huge laugh when asked my name. The leading man previously starred in a sitcom and I replied with the name of his nemesis from that show and " I haven't forgiven you". I was given a signed photo in the interval which I thought was a lovely gesture.
If approached in person I just shake my head and quietly say no thank you and they move on. No professional will ever force the issue.

I'm sitting at one of the cabaret tables and if Eddie Redmayne doesn't sit on my lap I'm demanding my money back.

I’ve heard from people on it that it’s absolutely Jessie Buckley’s show, and that Eddie R is completely unremarkable. I guess that character needs an audience to really come alive though, so he may have improved.

I still expect people going to the first few shows to report seeing people being turned away at the front door or empty seats. We all know people don’t read emails and texts ag the level they should and there will be many people who will simply assume their vaccination status exempts them from testing and will not grasp that it doesn’t. I mean tons of people were turned away during the summer from international travel due to not filling in forms or getting the right testing. I've seen people turn up without tests and the venue have had LFTs ready to go so they could step into a quiet room, quickly test and rejoin queue. Was very civilized and painless.

The amount of complaining in this thread is hilarious. Anyone who doesn't read the multiple warnings about testing requirements for this show only has themselves to blame. And audience participation can't be forced on anyone, but the different nature of this production was blindingly obvious from the start so I am surprised anyone is shocked. If anyone who bought a seat at the front doesn't want audience participation I am more than happy to swap their tickets for my back of the dress circle ones where they can sit removed from the experience in peace. All sounds like fun to me!

All sounds like fun to me! Likewise if anyone really wants to be devoid of a chance of audience participation, I can switch with the back row of the upper circle!

Honestly, I splurged on a table to be part of the show and thought it would include them being all around us.

Hairspray, you have so many complaints about this show, probably best to admit it's not something for you and move on.
If you don't like so many aspects, you don't need to put yourself through such hell as to go to the show. It's not tailored to your wishes and desires, but their own, you could always put on a show that doesn't require testing and has no involvement with the audience. You can do whatever you want, as can they.

Well, I couldn't make it to the Dress Rehearsal today but my friend went instead of me. She just called me to say thank you and she won't stop raving about Eddie Redmayne. According to her it's an absolutely wonderful production and deserves to be seen. She was in the front row and ended dancing on stage at some point. There's apparently quite a lot of interaction with the audience in Stalls and there's no place to hide. Her advice is to go for Dress Circle seats if not confortable with audience participation. To late for me though, already have a Stalls ticket! So we go through hoops to pass their covid rules and then they want interaction , couldn't make it up. After paying these prices most will be coming to see a show not be part of it. If a person says no they should be left to watch. I would presume that's exactly WHY they want such strict COVID rules, BECAUSE of this.

Different opinions I guess. Back to audience participation there’s quite a bit just before the show starts. You don’t have to participate but everybody did as this was a dress rehearsal for family and friends.. There are phones on the tables and people get called and asked to do something silly. Once the show begins the interaction is only cast members passing by and maybe making eye contact. Then some people will be ask to dance on stage at the beginning of Act 2. People can of course refuse, but nobody did yesterday. It doesn’t sound too bad. Looking forward to see it

That's what I was expecting from the prologue, and think it goes well with their concept of creating a club. Just didn't want too much middle-of-the-show audience thingy's.

Let’s hope their checking peoples negative tests etc is rigorous, or this will be shut down with COVID cases faster than you can say Audience Participation.

Let's also hope that we now start talking about the musical rather than Covid.

Just wanted to report back that as a tourist I managed to get one of those free NHS lateral flow test kits at Boots after I showed them my collect code this morning. The nice lady told me they’ve had supply issues in recent weeks but a shipment arrived this morning. Just an FYI that some Boots or other places may not have these available so perhaps best to have NHS mail you one. I followed the easy instructions and after I reported my negative result, I received a text from NHS stating my negative result. I’ll admit I was impressed on how easy it was and relieved they sent text to my US cellphone number.

I had to go to four different boots to get my test kit , but like above so easy , quick , got the text minutes after sending the code in.

I fully expect the people going this week to report seeing people turned away at the door. No one should be turned away , and if they are. It’s not the fault of the production , theatre or staff. I’ve had two emails today saying what was needed. If people can’t follow simple rules and they are very simple. Than they deserve not to be seated. It’s quite simple follow the advice sent to you.

Crumbs, some dreadfully negative posting here. The show hasn't even opened! I personally am unlikely to see it, but I bet it's brilliant and hope everyone has fun tonight. I've heard some very exciting stuff from people I know in this show and it sounds like you're in for a treat.
