I’m tempted to have a poll on whether our members think her commitment to a leading role in a west end show charging £300 for front row seats should take precedence over a fashion show/party that she gets to attend every year.
Either way you can bet your life that Cara was telling all and sundry at the Gala that she’s the star of Cabaret in the west end. Omitting the word “sometimes”.

I mean if anyone hadn't noticed, TodayTix says (and has said for a while)
which always makes me giggle.

Seems like Cara has spent more time off stage than on it. Bet the rest of the cast can't wait till cast change.. when they get someone actually trained in musical theatre

Unless you've heard something then you've absolutely no evidence that the company can't wait to be rid of her.
All I've heard from people on the team is she's lovely and is actually giving a good performance, and we know a lot of her absences were scheduled (but admittedly some are not). First go at musical theatre and it's evidently proved harder than she thought.

We knew she’d be missing loads of dates at the outset. My point was really that it sends a message to the paying customer when a cast member considers something like the Met Gala to take precedence and to require time off for it. She’ll do that event annually, why not miss one and show a bit of commitment to your apparent ambition to perform on stage in a major WE show? Speaks volumes.

Respectfully, I think thats a little unfair. She has other comittments which have always been announced. Lots of people have pre-booked before her announcement so will not be too concerned anyhow. It is disappointing for people who booked to see her, but there is never a guarantee of a particular cast member. Admittedly, she has indeed missed a few unannounced shows but things happen. Besides, she did dhow up the day after her house burnt down!As for the Met Gala, there may be other reasons she felt like she needed to attend. And the idea of comittment to the show is a bit harsh. She has been given amazing performances by all accounts so she is comitted. She just has some other comittments, potentiallty forseen and unforseen, come up. She can be fully comitted and still have stuff like that happen. Zachary James in Hadestown hadn't missed a show in 14 years but has now been drawn away several time due to unforeseen comittments. All this to say: we don't know whats happening all the time, and I think its unfair to question her comittment. She was cast for a reason, and under the understnding, she would be missing a few shows anyway

I understand that actors may have other commitments and want to be at certain events in order to maintain "visibility" which helps their careers, but on the other hand they have committed to a well-paid job in front of an audience who wants to see them in the show.
Back in the day there were actors who missed out on collecting their own Oscars because they were doing a play or a show and couldn't attend.

Some people's faces take so wonderfully to some of the Sally make-up design choices.

I did indeed see the matinee today.
Layton brings a freshness to the Emcee role and I thought he was excellent. It was so nice to see him playing a role older than 16 as well!
I didn't see Rhea, but I did see Nic Myers as the alternate Sally Bowles. I do remember her from Arts Ed. She is also very good, particularly in the second act when she's allowed to go for it. She did add some additional cursing to the normal script. I think this would have been the first time that Layton and Nic were on together too.
I saw all of the first few Cabaret casts, but I've skipped some of the recent cast changes where these didn't grab me, so this was also the first time I've been able to see Michael as Clifford. It's not a role where you can easily add that much, but he has such a good voice and so much charm that you can't fault him. Fantastic to see his fellow Newsies star Damon Gould in the cast as well.
Sally Ann Triplett and Fenton Gray are perfect together. Frankly, I've never seen a bad performance out of either of them, but they're both vocally excellent and bring a tenderness to their relationship. Even better, they didn't play things for laughs.
This is the first time I've sat in the Stalls, having got a £50 ticket on the day. I was in the back row, but the rake is good, there was no one in front, and lots of leg room too. Position wise, it's only where premium seating would be in many theatres. Being a Wednesday matinee, there were a few gaps. Much as I'd like to try a table, I had a decent view of a women who looked uncomfortable (or terrified) throughout, so where I was sat was fine for me. Plus, even though I was on the end, it was very hard for any of the cast to sneak up on me, unlike a woman a few rows in front who got rather a shock from another Arts Ed graduate.
This is most certainly a cast I'll be happy to return to and see again.

Just came back from seeing this for the first time. I loved every single minute of my time in the KitKat Club. It is astounding how they manage to bring you to this weird place where everything seems possible. We had the full first cast. The two leads were outstanding. Layton Williams has an enchanting voice which soared around the theatre at times. Rhea Norwood left me speechless after her astounding rendition of ‘Cabaret’. People stood up right after her last note to deliver her the deserved applause. I really liked Sally Ann Triplett as Fraulein Schneider, she has a beautiful voice and brought the heartbreaking story to life.
The front of house staff was also very sweet and enthusiastic which added to the overall experience.
I would love to come back to this show in the future. And could absolute recommend this beautiful cast.

My friend wants to see this again, and who am I to deny him!? I've just seen Layton will be off the date we have in mind. I have no issues seeing the cover but would I miss out if I don't see Layton? Is he worth rescheduling for?

Were you seeing Toby (most scheduled dates?) or Travis (1 July); I can only speak to Toby but from all reports Toby is a great emcee who travels well throughout the show!

I know he is fab, it's more would I regret not seeing Layton (i.e. worth booking an extra trip?) Ah, my apolgies for misunderstanding. I have heard some good things on the grapevine about Layton, so if it is within your realms of possibility (e.g., budget, this production is so unnecessarily expensive!) I would recommend that. Disclaimers, however: 1. I am a major fan of Cabaret and 2. I have not yet seen Layton myself. I am seeing the show again this coming Tuesday and can report back then, if you'd like (bearing in mind these caveats!)

That sounds like a decent afternoon out. The info has gone now as it's fully booked - what was on offer? Oof, test my memory 😟 In summary it was 1200 to 4.30 pm. You got free lunch and drinks. All seating was premium, at tables and front stalls. Six numbers would be performed, cast not mic’d they would be singing to a track. Some numbers would be done more than once for editing purposes. No dress code, come as yourself but maybe yourself as you would be on a Saturday night at the theatre. Please avoid logo t-shirts and “light coloured hats” ??
