I am intrigued to know what this new take on the song is all about. Can anyone enlighten me? Without being rude What I heard right now they’re going for out of tune, flat, behind the music rank amateur up to the end when she pulls out a brilliant finish. She’s obviously got a great voice. Directorial choice I understand. Does not work on radio My dad was like ‘what the bloody hell is that’ 😂 It works in the context of the show. Just hearing it probably doesn't give the same impression. |

Listening to the radio broadcast, I had to laugh when Eddie R talked about the privilege of watching Jessie B on stage “every night” (well, ‘a few times a week for the last 2 months of her contract’ might have been closer to the truth.)

Eddie and Jessie were asked point blank if they were bringing this production of Cabaret to Broadway. No one said “yes” or “no” to the question, but Buckley did say “I don’t know!” with wide eyes. I think, reading between the lines and based on the pattern of attendance, she signed up for this but discovered that she was not able to sustain. She isn’t a MT actor and it turned out to be too much, especially with the direction of the songs. I am speculating based on what we know, so JB defenders please contain your outrage. JB is undoubtedly a great actor but it seems that she has her singing limitations, either generally or maybe just in this role because of how it was directed. I think Broadway producers would need a bit more a of sure bet. Eddie: yes. Jessie: no. UNLESS of course there is some unknown factor that we don’t know about which means JB would be 100% reliable on Broadway.
Plus it was only like 6 or 7 years since the last time it was on Broadway. Revival of the Mendes version.

The production was Eddie's idea and he is one of the producers. He chose Frecknall and he chose Jessie.

How much did their performances vary, for those who saw both?

That said though, it is meant to be Sally having a breakdown so in that context it makes sense despite being painful on the ears, and is to a large extent the direction. |

It’s so mannered and uncomfortable to watch. I’d like to see it in context I think. Also I miss Liza Edited to say if JB off due to vocal issues I can understand why now. Surely that’s gotta rip your throat out singing like that |

Eddie Redmayne: Cabaret on Broadway? Never say never...The question was put to the award-winning Cabaret stars Jessie Buckley and Eddie Redmayne after they both picked up leading performer nods for Cabaret, which opened in the West End last autumn.
Buckley leapt in first with an energetic "yes!" while Redmayne was a bit more measured, saying "well never say never... we've both just finished our runs and we both definitely need a holiday first!" We'd put our money on producers already sizing up possible locations...
