Running 27 November to 1 January at the Birmingham REP - directed by Sean Foley, before transferring to Theatre Royal Bath from 11 to 22 January.

This opened last week. So far surprise guests have been Kara Tointon, Denise Welch and last night…Tom Hiddleston!

Wow, Tom Hiddleston’s quite a coup for a guest star, especially outside London. Apparently he was there at both the matinee and evening performances today. Might have to book this now as I wonder who else they’ll get for the rest of the run! |

Saw the first performance of this last week it’s in really great shape already …. 15 years or so since I last saw it in the west end 🎭
It will only get slicker and tighter as it goes really worth catching they have £15 sets for most of the performances too
Kara was good fun as the first guest … I wasn’t expecting same level of guest as London used to get of course …. But then Tom H the other day …. Maybe 🤔 to get sales up …. Then will go back to loose women and surely Alison Hammond will pop up at one point 😁

Enjoyed this tonight, having not seen the original run.
A very witty script and a much more diverse audience than you see in London (although the house was not as full as it could have been). This is particularly strong on the visual gags.
Still Open All Hours star Sue Holderness was the special guest. Very ready to get involved and they had perfect gags for her (although I get the impression she’s been the guest turn a lot during the run so this is quite polished by now).
Surprised how short this is. The first half is only about 30 minutes, the second half 40 minutes, with a long interval.
The audience lapped it up, with several people near me keen to offer punch lines to their friends before they were announced (not normally with the same punchline). The refurbished Rep looks great too.

Surprised to see it going to The Lowry. They had Eric and Ern at Christmas on in December which I didn’t see but sounds like a very similar show.

Tom Hiddleston announced to appear in Bath dates from tonight with Charles Dance and Sue Holderness. Also will be filmed for BBC broadcast later this year (date tbc).

We saw it at Chichester yesterday with Adrian Lester as the guest star. The 1st half of the show I found the comedy a bit hit and miss but I loved the second half. An article in the local paper said that they shoehorn in a couple of jokes regarding the star each performance but I was surprised by just how many jokes they managed to get in about Adrian. I particularly liked the reference to the TV show "Trigger Point" being the follow-up to a character in "Only Fools and Horses."
Adrian LesDennis, as they called him at one point, was a good sport and I was so glad that the guest star wasn't one of the "Loose Women" crowd.

Mater's verdict on yesterday's matinee: "I thought it would be funny. It wasn't."
It took some doing, but we eventually decided that Tamzin Outhwaite is this week's special guest. "She's only on stage for five minutes."
I think we've found Baz's replacement. 😂

Tried to watch this on BBC4. No hyperbole, it is one of the worst, most cringeworthy attempts at comedy I have ever seen. I have never seen two people try so hard to be funny and fail. Truly abysmal.

Also tried to watch this in bbc4 and also stopped as it was not good. Was with my parents who are of the Morcombe and Wise generation they where of equal opinion.

STAY FOR ACT TWO
I watched Act One and very nearly switched off - it was trying way too hard and was baffling to watch. But Act 2 really leans into being an actual Morcambe and Wise love letter, it is genuinely really fun and has plenty of laughs.
Also their work with the guest star (the filmed version having Tom Hiddleston) is great - it’s always funny to have talented actors read awful dialogue and getting their surnames wrong

I don't remember much from when I saw this on the stage many years ago, but really enjoyed the filmed recording tonight: great fun, lots of laughter, and a lovely homage to Morecambe & Wise.
However, the vision mixing was poor: they kept cutting to a close-up when the action needed a wide shot. And that BBC FOUR logo on the screen the whole time was intrusive and annoying.

I saw this on stage years ago (Charles Dance as guest) and got some good laughs from it, I don’t remember the first act being so manic and confusing . The set up of the Morecambe and Wise theme was lost in the frenzy. I nearly switched off , but the second act was much better. A nice and humorous tribute, just as I expected.

I'm afraid I gave up as either I didn't get it or it just wasn't funny. I found it quite cringe worthy and quite amateur.
I did record it so might just watch the ending but I was really disappointed.

This show just didn't transfer to screen one bit. It felt like like how people who hate theatre imagine theatre to be.
