I understand this is the full thing, in a new production with new sets, staging and new direction. Oh wow, that is huge. This is so exciting! “Expect multimedia”, apparently. Maybe incorporating some of the staging from Barcelona? No idea what that means. I am so happy regardless!

I fully expect this to be a pretty much an instant sell out, so don't sleep on tickets when they go on sale next Monday, from 12pm

Very excited about this news but whatsonstage needs to get its act together. NEXT TO NORMAL did not win the Tony Award for Best Musical. It won Best Musical Score. Billy Elliot beat it for the top prize.

TICKET PRICES

Although I know of the musical I don't know the music. (Well I don't think I do) so downloaded it to have a listen to.

Well worth checking out clips of Marin Mazzie as Diana too - arguably the best take over in a musical of recent memory, and a prime example of why takeovers should be eligible for Tony's (she'd have won).

I’ve long thought the Tony’s and Olivier’s should have Best Takeover of a Role categories. Some absolutely phenomenal performances have gone “unrecognised” over the years. John Owen-Jones in Les Mis is just one such example. Mazzie/Danieley are both terrific, only just watched that bootleg the other week!

Russell was apparently meant to do a production with Jamie Lloyd which obv didn't end up happening.
They've cast their Diana and it's an American.

Ok, lovely to see all the enthusiasm about it but for those of us who haven’t seen this and don’t know much about it, please tell us why we should be excited?

Can you share who? *I actually got it wrong she's not American but close enough. I can't give the name as my friend told me in confidence. I will say she's been doing theatre in NY for 10+ years, has worked here and been the lead in shows. I wouldn't say she's a name here or much of one in NY. I was surprised (and a little disappointed) with the casting but she could end up being fantastic.
