E-mail from the Curve saying running time approx 1hr 45mins without interval. Meaning there is no interval. Oh dear…. That won’t be popular!

E-mail from the Curve saying running time approx 1hr 45mins without interval. Is it ever performed with an interval? I was involved in an amateur version and we put it in between 'Gimme the Ball' and 'Dance 10; Looks 3', but I don't know if any professional productions ever have one.

BurlyBeaR / cherokee , from the email - “ The original production was performed straight through with no interval, and we will be honouring the same spirit here at Curve, never allowing the tension to break all the way to musical theatre’s most unforgettable finale. “

For me it did not work. I think 1hr45 is fine to sit without break.

My bladder can manage 1:45 if I don't drink for a couple of hours beforehand. So, in one stroke, the director kills pre-show bar sales and mid-show bar sales. You'd think theatre had a death wish, or is it content to milk sponsorship and grants and to hell with ancillary sales?

I'm all for no intervals. Some shows flow better without one. Plus you get home 20 mins earlier. I saw Follies twice at the NT which was over 2 hours with no interval and I don't remember people getting up to go to the loo mid performance. Anyway the theatre could always make some extra money by selling Tenna Lady and Tenna Men pants along with the programme.

I know more people who don't drink before or during shows than who do, and if it's better for the show to run straight through then I'm all for it.

It's not much of a saving. The £38.25 I would pay as a member for a seat in the front half of the Stalls drops to £35.00. Still better to go for a £24.00 preview ticket.

You'd think theatre had a death wish, or is it content to milk sponsorship and grants and to hell with ancillary sales? Yes theatres need to make money, but there's also something called artistic integrity. Allowing an audience to appreciate a show fully, as it was written and come out enjoying it because there was no interval, can have longer term benefits if that person comes back for other shows. No one comes back to a theatre because they could buy a drink at the interval.

I wanted to say something more in praise of the interval, but I thought it deserved its own thread, so it's here: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/9073/praise-interval

Exciting!
Random question but worth a shout - I'm reviewing this on press night and they've allocated me two tickets, does anyone want to come along for a freebie? Tuesday 7th December, 7.30pm start. I won't know where the seats are until I get there but they'll be top price. There's no interval so you don't have to talk to me much, and I promise I'm not a murderer... 🤣
Let me know if it's any use to anyone, if not I'll contact them and they can reallocate it.

If they are in max anti Covid mode make sure you have a coat you can keep on during the show as even in summer with the ventilation turned up high it was freezing inside!

That makes a change then. For my last few shows before lockdown, it was sweltering in stalls row E. Oddly, it seemed to coincide with the removal of the two aisles. Complaining elicited condescending responses telling me there was no problem, so I took a thermometer to the next show and measured 27C.

Interested in seeing this, think the last London revival was straight through with no interval too and it works very well with the story.

Really not looking forward to this experience now. But Curve have gone ultra-virtue signally in the last few years, so I shouldn't be surprised they've gone so OTT with everything.

Dress rehearsal tickets for £1 for tonight if anyone can make it.
I cant but having been to a few before you get the full proper show for £1 so it's worth going.
Amazingly wearing a bit of fabric on my face and maybe needing to wear a jacket doesn't sound so hellish to me ill miss seeing this on Saturday..

I’m making the trip for the Saturday matinee. Anyone else going? It’s my first time at the Curve so any advice about getting there from the train station and any recommendations for cheap places to eat would be greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance.
